Creeping out of lurk mode...
Love this thread. Here's my contribution:
American Punk Rock!
SST Records from Redondo Beach, California;
Black Flag- My War, My Rules, My Perogative (woops that's Bobby Brown!)
The Minutemen- Mike Watt is still one of the most exciting bass
players on the planet. God bless D Boon.
Meat Puppets- so many good records! Acid fried southern punk
Saccharine Trust- almost the coolest band ever. We Became
Snakes-could be the coolest record ever.
Husker Du-Midwest Represents!
Tar Babies- HEY! That's my old band! Reissues coming soon!
The Descendents- Milo Goes to College. Much copied NEVER duplicated!
and too many others to mention. Like Flipper, The Bad Brains, Minor
Threat, Scream, Articles of Faith. I know that it's kind of tired but
Keith Richards once said that at any given moment the best band in
the world is playing in some basement or garage somewhere. I toured
for ten years and every crappy little club/town we visited had a band
or at least a musician that kicked my ass. Oh, except Lincoln,
Nebraska oh and maybe Salt Lake City...
My son, a former punk rock superstar/now dj thinks electronic
music/rave culture is the punk rock of modern times. A community
brought together through the love of music. And of course DIY is the
norm today with home studios the size of a pack of smokes, ACID to
make your music, the Internet to share it, your computer to burn it.
He's probably right. He's smart that way my kid is.
R.(still clinging to those punk rock roots... while listening to Kid
Loco- Kill Your Darlings)
