We have a special "Freerange Taster" mix this week from Shur-I-kan,
who will be appearing with Jimpster this Saturday, March 2nd at
Kelly's Mission Rock (downstairs), along with the Naked Music crew
(Miguel Migs, Mauricio Aviles and a live performance by Lisa Shaw,
upstairs). Make sure to tune in this evening if you're in the Bay
Area, or catch it in the re-broadcast, beginning next week. Of
course, we'll have tickets to give away to several lucky listeners.
You might also want to pick up a copy of the new Freerange
compilation, "All Our Eggs In One Basket," a fine retrospective from
this cutting-edge UK label.
We're very pleased to announce that FreeFall can now be heard every
Thursday morning at 10am PST on Flaresound - a new destination for
Internet radio, offering three streams of downtempo and nu-jazz 24
hours a day. Thanks to Jeff and the rest of the staff for inviting us
to be a part of their family. Check them out at:
http://www.flaresound.com.
Record of the week: Nina Simone's "See-Line Woman" remixed by Masters
At Work, from the forthcoming "Verve Remixed" compilation due out at
the end of April. Extending the song to just over ten minutes, MAW
adds some sweet keyboard work from Steven Barkan and takes an
understated approach to the mix. This is one of my favorite songs and
there was a fair amount of trepidation when I dropped the needle into
the groove. In the end I was pleasantly surprised.
That's if for this week - ciao for now.....
David
