During the years 1971 to 1973 I was in high school.
I spent a lotta time going to high school dances, house parties and block parties.

    So what's a "block party"?
Block parties were events that were staged in the neighborhood by good minded civic folks who wanted to provide some entertainment for local city residents where they didn't have to travel.
They were kind of like a giant collective barbeque, which took place right on the street.
Kids could play their street games without having to worry about getting hit by a car
Permits would be obtained to baracade the stret to vehicular traffic, residents would chip in and buy food, bring their grills down and start "burnin some meat".

Of course, during the years 1971 - 1973, my attendance at block parties was predicated by the notion that there would be many "available new females" also in attendance :)

Sometimes block parties could turn into extravaganzas with one neighborhood trying to out do the previous one, and over the years some block parties would become legendary.
Some would have a DJ playing music, some would even feature a band with live music.

Either way, you knew that the music was certain to be SLAMMIN because the idea was to have a constant flow of "upbeat/popular music".
    In 1971 - 1973 that meant FUNK....
During the years I was in high school, the airways in my city were completely dominated by FUNK MUSIC.
In my mind those were the years when FUNK MUSIC was at it's height.
Arits that you never heard of, many playing on labels that you never heard of were coming out with new jams on the radio it seemed like daily and of course the biggest stars in the universe were also playing FUNK.
It's an interesting period to look back at, because the band that most people would associate with the term FUNK, was so far beneath the radar, that they might as well have not even existed.

    Anyhow...
All of this is my rather long winded introduction to a new program that we have playing up on Soul-Patrol.Net Radio

    <a href=" http://www.soul-patrol.net/" AOL Link" Soul-Patrol.Net Radio BLOCK PARTY PARTS 1 & 2</a>
    called "BLOCK PARTY PARTS 1 & 2"

It only happens to be one of the MOST innovative and radio programs i have ever heard, either on or off the internet.
It speaks to the notion of FUNK as it truly existed from 1971 - 1973, it takes us back in time to give us a real feel for what being at an inner city Block party was like in 1971 - 1973 and at the same time presents for you a prime example for those of you who don't think that there is a real problem with today's radio, just a taste of why today's radio is KNEE-GRO radio...

I have no doubt that this program is going to be widly imitated by people who don't have an original thought in their body.
Just remember that when someone does this....
    ...YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST
