  • Next message: Velanche Stewart: "[acid-jazz] Cuki playlists and Chart"

    Where ya been?
Oops! Sorry folks, been out and about and as busy as a bee!
The Cuki is back though and comes with nuff news, views and shit loads
of new choons for you to check out for! 31 new bullets to be precise.
From now on I will highlight the nu bitz in blue so it helps the regular
reader by pass all the crap I wrote before. I will also post just a
chart without all the chat for those who can't be bothered. Some folks
have also asked for some playlists like I used to do back in day, well
back in London day. Maybe I will get together the track listings of
recent gigs for ya. Hold tight.

    Here we go......

    First stop, Vienna!
35'c and Viennese bunnies showing too much skin and flesh, Cuki's boots
are hot! True story! Cuki walks straight into a lamppost as he watches
one particular bunny cross the road! Summer in middle Europe is fun,
it's just that sometimes it can be a bit painful too. The girl shows
much sympathy though and somehow I manage to get her phone number! It
    was worth the pain.

    Next stop, Graz!
Home of the sophisticated bunny! These bunnies wear plenty of black and
walk with a prouder and more upright step! Summertime still, so the
black is a little more revealing! (I hear its raining cats and dogs in
London!) Eddy from Eddy & Dus fame gives the Cuki man a lift in his
automobile to this beautiful city, Eddy has been in Vienna to cause more
chaos! Joking, he's one of the nicest fella's around! Ask Alex Attias or
Domu about Eddys charming ways. You can check his wonderful mix and
compilation called Playground Vol 5 on ecco.chamber records too
http://www.eccochamber.com/ We hang out in one of the nicest bars in
Europe awaiting my pick up before Eddy heads back to Zagreb. Styrian
bunnies arrive in a taxi to take Dr Boots to his gig! Somehow this is
all surreal. Sitting in the back seat with a box of records and two
gorgeous girls, it's 35'c and I'm getting paid for this! God is on my
side we think. We luv ya boots big man in the sky!
The girls take me to a new bar/club in town to play for the Vipers man
Volker. I wanted them to take me somewhere else but was to shy to ask!
The Boots man is all talk. Many thanks to Vanessa and Yasmine for
looking after Cuki in the back seat of a white Mercedes and for getting
me to the gig. Most thanks go to them for being just plain gorgeous.
God, I'm brave when I'm a few kilometres away!
I'm here to play at the new Vipers bar called Thienfeld or Vipers in
Thienfeld to be more precise. I'll try to get Volker to post some pics
of the girls on www.vipers.at The night is cool and Cuki as always
enjoying playing some half decent choons to the natives.
The next day we make our way back to home base camp in Wien. The train
journey from Graz to Vienna is as stunning as Vanessa and Yasmine's
smile (See, I like a bit of nature too). My nose is still square from
the window pressure it received from all the wonderful viewing. It
wasn't until the last one hour of the journey that I realised you could
open the windows on the train fully, thus enjoying the feeling that you
are dog with your head out of the car window! It came to mind, that
maybe dogs think they are humans with their heads out of trains while
they are experiencing this! Mmmm just a thought! (don't spend to much
    time thinking about it please)
As with all Cuki's wonderful little trips, we say 'we luv ya boots' to
all concerned. Especially Volker, Yasmie and Vanessa.

    Vienna!
Still 35'c and time for Mrs Boots to visit Mr Boots. You didn't know
there was a Mrs Boots did ya! Well actually it's Cukibaba, the real deal
Cukibaba too (Sugar baby). Here to witness Kruder & Dorfmeister, Rainer
Truby and Michael's Rutten and Reinboth lay down the musical law at the
G Stone summer bash at the Flex. 5 wicked DJ's, one excellent party,
    nuff said.
Next nights Baba gets to go to Soulsugar and the Dub Club to see how
Papa lives when residing in Vienna.

    London!
While Baba heads off to homeland Hungary to meet family, friends and the
peeps who will hopefully give her a UK visa, Papa packs his record bag
for an 8 day excursion to the UK. 3 gigs and plenty of friends to check
    up on.
The plane lands and Wednesday afternoon we get to meet a star of the
future. Ms Guida de Palma who some may know sang on the brilliant
interpretation of Kitty Winters classic 'New Morning' on the Japanese
'Routine' compilation earlier in the year. Look out for excellent music
forthcoming from Guida in the coming months. And it really is something
to watch out for. Talking about hot new acts, many thanks to the Cat in
Brixton for the hottest 'hush hush' in Cuki's collection for many a
month. It hasn't left by CD player bro! Many thanks to all crews in
Brixton, Rocket Science crew, Andy at Mantis and of course the Cat.
I head off to my home for the next week to find I am living with 3
Swedish girls! Hard life isn't it! Sisters Anna 20, Lisa 19, and Karin
16 are all there to welcome me and make me feel at home. They don't want
    me getting
home sick so each night they bring me the finest cakes from the Baker
and Spice bakery. I'll refrain from calling Anna, Lisa and Karin bunnies
as in reality they are 3 little princesses.
Thursday night and time to team up with my ol buddy Nippon Nik Weston.
This where I get a lesson in all things Japanese. You can catch Nik
playing with himself, and some guests each and every Thursday at the
Point 101 joint . Of course you can catch him sniffing around Japanese
school girls outside the Japanese centre on Piccadilly at all other
times. Nice as always to play with Nik (records that is!) One of the
only things I really miss about London is Nik Weston and those amazing
musical tee shirts. He really does have the best collection of tight
fitting ten year old tee's about.

    Brighton
Friday and after a great afternoon with Gerry from Foundation records, I
take a train from London to Brighton.
It is unfortunately not as exciting as the one's I get to experience in
Europe. Everyone diving into their laptop or newspapers and no
communication with other passengers etc. It is made up though as I am
    met at the famous
Jazz rooms by Russ Dewbury and his lovely wife
    Leoniehttp://www.jazzbop.co.uk/jazzrooms/index.html home
of one of the longest running club nights ever. Russ is one of the
nicest guys in the scene and a legend to many through his excellent DJ
sets and wondrous compilations. Russ has the knack of finding records
that others did not know even existed. Recently Russ played a awesome
selection of music here in Vienna and stayed at Bootsville to give me a
right good hammering on Grand Turisimo PS2. It was nice for me to catch
up with him again and his beautiful wife this time in his back yard. The
Jazz Rooms are one of the most famous club nights on the planet and for
many reasons. Mostly though because it has wonderful vibe and warmth,
even at the very beginning of the night when the club is relatively
empty, the DJ still feels very comfortable in these surroundings.
When it fills up, it really is a super place for any DJ to play at.
Jazz, Soul and Funk were made for this lovely little club on Ship St, a
quality sound system, good vibes and a considerate and kind hosts all
add to the experience. Cuki lays down two sets, one new, one old, all
inside the Jazz rooms enjoy the selections too, definitely the most open
minded of all Brighton peeps going to the Russ's club every Friday and
    Saturday night.
Nice to meet Garry, Barry and Gareth who also have a nice little thing
going down in Brighton, check www.club-askew.co.uk for their broken
beat Brighton runnings. Respect to Russ and Leonie for keeping one of
the longest running club nights fresh after all these years.

    Back to London
Saturday night and we head off to the Charterhouse joint to catch up
with DJ MK Ultra aka Nigel Prankster aka Big Bro aka Hairdressers
husband. Nigel really does have the grooviest hair do, girls drool at
the mouth when the wind whistles though his locks, boys look on in envy
as yet another girl asks for his vital statistics and phone number. I
did hear him say once to one unsuspecting victim that if it was all in
proportion, then he would be seven foot tall! Work that one out for
yourselves! He can play records too, he's got it all that boy! Always a
mighty fine selection of new and old rhythms too, Cuki and big bro
having a extended back to back or ping pong with the nu jazz selection.
Nice also to catch up with the Altered Vibes club man Nick Lawrence who
has one tidy little record label by the same name, Altered Vibes that is
and not a record label called Nick Lawrence! He has a residency down the
road at Smiths in rotation with Mike from People records, Orin and the
Bugz and Felix from Earth Project Check http://www.alteredvibes.com
for more info on the man, his club and the label.
As with all Saturday nights, we end up at Plastic People for the
Nigerian superstar selection. The 'Balance' night still the place to be
for all spiritual and soulful end of night sounds
    http://www.plasticpeople.co.uk/plastic.html Ade the man.

    Sunday
Cargo, GP and Benji are playing a worldwide selection for those that
know and care. Special guests Earl Zinger and Charlie Dark giving the
crowd a special treat with the live biz. As usual with GP do's, a dope
selection of old and new flavas to get your note books out for. Another
special guest turned up in the form of a Finnish bunny called Sonata.
The girl who read my palm in Helsinki a few weeks earlier was present
and of course I wanted a second reading ;) Many thanks to Sonata for
that second reading and hopefully I didn't spill too much olive oil on
your bed! Many thanks to Tony and Phil at Head On for the guest list
biz. GP, BB, Rob, Charlie and all the crew. Catching up with all the
boys in London is on schedule.

    Monday
I think it was Dalston I was in? Anyway, I'm not a million miles away
from the Zzonked office so I pop by to say hi to all the crew who send
me some of the dopiest tunes about. As with all trips to London I have
to carry a second empty record case for all the tunes I pick up on my
visits to the labels, promotional companies, artists etc. Hats off to
Duncan, Steve and co who do a great job with servicing the DJ's. Next
stop we head off to Papa HQ. One dope label to watch out for and some
know of some cracking tunes already from the label. Better still, even
doper stuff to come in the form of Modaji and Osunlade grooves. Nest up
for Oli and the boys at Papa is an excellent Jon Cutler track, watch out
    for that, soon come.
Monday night and of course Bar Rhumba 'THIS' or 'Thats how it is'.
Gilles Peterson, Ben Wilcox, Madlib and Chris aka Peanut Butter Wolf on
the 1200's. Another quality sesh as Cuki sits behind the decks getting
an education. Love to Otis, Chris, Ben (thanks for the Sirkus bits), GP,
Benji, Carolyn, Rob, Gavin and all in attendance. THIS still rocking
    even after nine years.

    Tuesday
And a last chance to catch up at all the shops in town. Always a
pleasure to bump into Antony and Andrew at Flying
http://www.dcmp.freeserve.co.uk JP, Gregory, the Japanese crew at
Junkies http://www.vinyl-junkies.com/index2.html Matt and Kev in Release
    http://www.releasethegroove.com/update/x-index100.htm Abbey at Soul Jazz
or what ever the shop is called this week
http://www.souljazzrecords.co.uk/shop.htm It was nice also to meet my
dear friend John Reynolds at Smallfish (nothing to do with aquariums but
in fact a very good record shop) http://www.smallfish.co.uk/ Also nice
to meet Rob at Tunes check http://www.tunes.co.uk/ for a very strong
online store. Tuesday afternoon and I meet the palm reader again. She
has gone to the airport on the wrong day and decides to head back into
town to spend a few hours with the Cuki before heading back to Helsinki
    the next day.
Tuesday night and we head back to London home to spend time with the
Swedish princesses. Cukibaba also comes home this night and we are happy
to report that Baba is now the proud owner of a UK visa. Those who know
Reka know this means more to her then anything else. We are happy that
    she is so happy.

    Wednesday
It's midnight and its Anna's 21st birthday. Swedish princess number 1 is
    21. My London trip is complete. I can go home back to Vienna later today
knowing I have had a full and great time meeting lots of old buddies and
for once actually enjoying some time in London. Even the essential
engineering works, bus replacement services or reduced escalators at
Kings Cross station not damping Cuki's London adventure. Lots of peeps
to mention. James at EPM, Nick Lawrence, Gerry at Foundation records,
Cypreen at Soul Brother, Earl Gateshead, Goya crew, Alex Mustangous,
Spencer, Mike and Darren, Jim and Chill Will at Papa, Spencer and
Ashleigh, Yemi, Sherri, Nik's Tomoko and of course Nippon, Michael, Big
bro and Allen Sovs (have fun in Copenhagen bro)
Antonio and crew at Bionic Boogie, Ade, all those mentioned before and
lots that I have probably forgotten to shout out. Bussi's and hugs to my
wonderful host and birthday girl Anna and the sisters.

    Vienna
Cuki is home and there is a message on my answer phone from the girl who
I walked into a lamppost for! All good then :)

    Loony links this week
Scheibo comes through with another corker! This man plays records! Nuff
    said!
    http://streams.omroep.nl/nps/dekortefilm/mixedup/flow/flow.html
My work college Natalie though comes with the best of the bunch. Check
People Under The Stairs vs Osama Bin Laden at
    http://atomfilms.shockwave.com/af/content/finding_bin_laden

Dr Boots prescribes the following for your forthcoming aural pleasure.
*Nu Bitz to chart this week

    *V/A - Worldwide Programme 2 (Talkin Loud) 2xLP, 10" & CD
GP comes with nuff goodies for this programme two in the Worldwide
vaults of new meeting old. GP is the don and this release confirms that
reputation. Dwele's 'A.N.G.E.L', Drumagicks awesome 'Easy Boom' and
Charlie Hunter with Mos Def's 'Creole' being exclusive vinyl choice
cuts. The butter on the bread though comes with Sun Ra's 'Where there is
no sun'. Look out for a sampler ten inch to coincide with this release,
Dewle and Drumagik on that release.

*Povo - Uam Uam (Raw Fusion) CD-R
Classic minimal percussion with keys that stick in your head weeks
after. Basically it's Art Farmer gone back to the future. Yep, Mad Mats
comes with the second wave of releases from the excellent Raw Fusion
imprint. Povo's 'Uam Uam' already heard on the Worldwide show and set to
blow up big time to clubs, bars, supermarkets and hairdressers
everywhere. And it really is a tune that will be heard everywhere. I
believe some advertising agency will pick this up and use it for some TV
ad. Mats will be of course driving around in his brand
new Bentley with two kilos of gold around his neck and fingers, a stack
of freshly plucked street girls in the back seat. Ghetto B boy comes
    good. Aiight

    *Focus - Sweet & Sour (Versatile) CD-R
It's coming! October bizniz for one of the best producers around and one
of the best albums to drop this year. Daddy Phil Asher comes with the
lick after all the good deeds he did for Nathan and the awesome 'Sound
Travels' album of last year. 13 slick and super tight productions (in
fact, tighter then a ducks backside) most tracks staying on a quality
house tip, a few venturing into territories elsewhere. The sought after
Hungarian jazz funk classic 'Bamba' gets a west London face lift along
with the an excellent collaborations with keyboard maestros Kaidi Tatham
    & Mark de Clive Lowe.

*Black Renaissance - Black Renaissance (Ubiquity) CD-R
Harry Whitakers finest moment, and he had many great moments with Roy
Ayers and co back in the seventies. This the keyboard player the true
jazz heads look for and one album that is making a few serious
collectors cringe! Why? Well its one serious rare record. Japanese
Baystate bizniz and one album that will make you friendly with your bank
manager. He is gonna wanna know why you just spent 300 quid on one
record! Thanks to Mr Jervis at Ubiquity, you are now back on friendlier
terms with Mr Bank Manager. Ubiquity deem this
album fit for a wider audience and thus saving you a whopping 285 quid!
It really is an amazing album that so many people don't even know about.
Any mugs out there wanna buy an original?

*Dubarchanoid Trim - Dubarchanoid Trim (Ultima) CD-R
Modern day Japanese electronica meeting old school acoustic niceness.
Some headz know about a Japanese twelve a few years ago that caused a
stir called Sincerity/Atoms in drum. Some may have seem the above
mention on a Japanese comp from the nice people at Foundation last year.
This the full monty, the full album and sitting and sounding very nice
in my CD player too. Chin scratching, toe tapping music for people who
choose to differ. Not everyones cup of tea, but then again not everyone
likes a cup of tea! Cuki likes his coffee black, very black.
Dubarchanoid Trim is Cuki's cup of coffee.

*Da Lata - Golden (Bugz in the Attic mix)(Palm Pictures) 12"
Bugz doing the bizniz yet again! Another dizzy heights affair from North
Acton. O bug and the boyz come through with a tried and trusted formula
that gets the floor filled. Broken beats, this time with Braziliance.
    Seek a
twelve as the info sheet instructs that this may not get a proper
release. If it's broken, don't fix it!

    *Nile - 3 in tha morning/Kiss me (Remixes)(Independiente) 2x12"
Stunning double pack with ridiculous mixes coming from Restless Soul, At
Jazz, Koop, and Swag. Nile is Jenne Grevious and her album will contain
ample dosages of tripped out Hip Hop with attitude. At this time we know
very little about Nile or Jenne but we know enough about our hero's on
the remix front, and believe me they all come through with bells
ringing, flags flying and feet shuffling.

    *Eerik & Arvid - V/T (Raw Fusion) CD-R
Aka Plej! Didn't I tell ya these boys will come though! I already know
of a few labels that have Gonkyburg peeps and in particular the very
talented Plej forthcoming. Gothenburg really is the next hot spot. This
release will actually be a repress with some new edits of the very
limited and original sort after Plej EP that Cuki keeps close to his bed
each night. Charming electronica from Arvid and Eerik and 4 tracks that
    offer a new dimension
in twists and turns. This release may by pass the Saturday night crowd
(unless of course they are really educated, Plastic People types will
get it!) but it is an essential piece of music just about everywhere
else. For me, the most satisfying thing is that Swedish music that will
come out on a Swedish label. Yeah, we don't have too many Swedish labels
doing the rounds and hats off to Mats for getting this thing going.

*Dom Um Romao - Remix EP 2 (Head to Toe) 12"
Sonar Circle man or Domu to those who don't know stealing it with a
tripped out hip hop number. Kinda reminding me of 4 Hero in Tek 9 guise
with its warming Rhodes and delayed drum sequencing. But then, just when
you start to think of understanding his programming skills, he throws a
curve ball in the shape of a percussive broken beat episode. He did this
with a Alison David remix and he does it again to similar effect. The
boy is killing it, from now on, he will be deemed 'Don Domu'.

*Tom Noble - Kind in the night (Misa Negra mixes)(Laws of Motion) 12"
Tom Noble gets the Bugz treatment too. Misa Negra normally come with
Daz-I-Kue and friends touching up whatever needs touching up. Another
storming Bugged out remix and another notch on the West London roll
honour. Tom Noble album in the can and expect more fruitful remixes to
    accompany future releases. Laws of
Motion one of the first to be breaking this sound.

*Ledisi - Feeling Orange but sometimes Blue (Soul Brother) 12"
If you feeling Fertile Ground then get ready for August 5th for when
this baby drops. Soulful and spiritual to the max. Ledisi is a quality
soul singer who can sing with the best of them. This track sending a few
    shivers down the
Cuki spine as he remembers the days he first heard Jean Carn sing on
Black Jazz record. Yep, Ledisi reminding me of the jazz masters of old.
Check also the new Organic Soul compilation (number 2) for more of the
same. Classic modern soul with nuff spirituality. Cheers to Cypreen at
Soul brother fro the tip off. Pure class

    *V/A - Companionship (April) CD-R
Back to Scandinavia again. This time a diverse and very worthy selection
from some of the main protagonists in the Scandinavian scene. That man
Jol along with Koop, Swell Session, Butti 49 (yeah, your beginning to
know the names aren't you!) A Bossa Electrica, Ernesto's, Kahuun are
just a few of the names to drop for this one of the best comps that will
surface this year. I know I keep banging on about the Scandinavian thing
but this selection will inform you why. And with Oslo Playboy jazz DJ
Shaven Eivind and Stockholm's ghetto pimp DJ Mad Mat's girles up the
spout, all looks well for the future.

*Calm - Between (Music Conception) 12"
The break of dawn being the lift of track on this new 4 tracker from
Japan. Nippon Nik on the case and giving it nuff support for the masses.
Cuki in agreement with the Nippon man and respectful of this strong
    release. As
always with Calm, the balance of percussion meeting electronica in
perfect synch. Modern day dance music for educated types. Me and Nik
    included

    *Maddslinky - Album (Sirkus) 2xLP
Still waiting for Ben to come through with all the details, the whites
carrying scant information but enough tracks for all concerned to get
off on. Crossbreed between soulful two step and broken beats and nu
    jazz, the final
track on the D side being one of the best jazz journeys I have going at
the moment. As with a lot of this music, the expanse of space and travel
between London and Detroit doesn't seem so great.

*The Electones - Summercloud (Be Caesar mix)(Inertia) 12"
Awesome remix on the old Alex Attias Bel Air Project tip. Future jazz as
it was then and still is today. Big in Petersons box so you know what I
am talking about. Fast and furious pace so new rubber on the bottom of
dem boots will be needed. Clever thing about this remix though, is that
Be Caesar retain much of the tripped out folkyness of the original. Nice
for Inertia to turn up to school too. Where ya been?

*Albenek - Schonberge 1 (Mouth to Mouth) 12"
Check for a 5 track twelve going by the name of Parfum Noir for this
dark and mystical musical journey by a new name of the Viennese block.
Don't look for a trippy and smoked out track with lots of reverb and
delays though. This coming with full nu jazz freshness and intelligent
knob twiddling. On a dark tip as the Mustangous would say.

    *? - Lounging with Jacko (?) 12"
Check the warmest Rhodes around on this mysterious twelve. I'm not
really in favour of booties but Wacko Jacko got enough pennies in the
bank we believe. 3 blinding rubs and one being the best rub Tosca/K&D
never did. Yeah, this is the lick and the kinda music that your local
plastic surgeon should know about. BTW, if I had mad Michaels money, I
would have top notch surgery on my ear lobes so those ear plugs I got
with my mini disc can stay in place and I could listen to this on my way
    to the coffee house!

*Thirdface - Read U my Soul/Got to Move (Full Cycle) 12"
Not your typical Bristol bomb! Full Cycle go all soulful on us with
haunting vocalist Audrey Okyere-Fosu joining Mark Young to collaborate
on this memorable and very moving release. This all happening in Hull
which is not the typical place you'd expect this kinda music to come
from. So it's hats off to Hull, hats off to Full Cycle for the departure
into other things not connected with Drum n Bass, hats off to Duncan for
the promo and very beautiful music.

*Bamboo Soul - Didi (Switch) 12"
Interesting outing for Henry Smithson aka Riton's Switch label. A light
hearted political stab at big bad Bush, he of the Whitehouse and the
numbtyhead head president of all time. What a laugh we had when the
    greatest
democracy in the land couldn't count properly and elected a monkey for a
president! Bamboo Soul capture it on vinyl. Similar sounds and attitude
as Meshell Ndegeocello, thus meaning plenty of folk, jazz, soul and even
    touches of rock! 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi's, 3 Mississippi's.

*Def Harmonic - So bright today (Altered Vibes) 12"
Forge likes it! Dr Boots likes it! If you get a copy, you'll like it
too! It's all about the astral-earth balance alliance here boys and
girls! 8 tracks of the most twisted hip hop around. Sounds like a
    reincarnation of Dr Funkenstein
and it really does travel the same pathways of some of those mad cap
Parliament outings back in the seventies. Dr Octagon if he was still
alive would love this baby. Altered Vibes the label that brought you the
    awesome
RJD2 track mixing up the flavas.

    *Jazzanova - In Between (JCR/Compost) 3xLP
Yeah, were talking vinyl! No children's puzzle included but it really is
about the music isn't it! Somehow a great record isn't complete unless
it gets pressed in twelve inch formats. Memorable moments littered
    across these 3
labs of vinyl and I'm guessing you know all about the music already.
It's one of those albums that gets a plastic sleeve to protect it form
all bad earthly elements like dust and damp. In the record collection
    for eternity. It feels
    good, its sounds even better.

*Uschi Classen - Soul Magic (Earth Project) 2xLP
Another memorable moment for vinyl junkies everywhere. Uschi long player
on two slabs of vinyl this time and the pieces of music on offer are
truly sublime. The collaborations with Robert Owens, Eska, Dee Ellington
and Kimra giving nuff goosebumps here at Bootsville. Another to receive
    the plastic sleeve. Nuff said.

*Jon Cutler & Sarah Anna Webb - Dawn (Papa) 12"
One of the new breed of quality labels that keeps going from strength to
strength. Sarah Anna Webb, her of D'influence fame lays down soulful
vocals to another tight Jon Cutler production. It's house and it's
straight but it's still very very good. At 125 bpm its quick, so be
stocked up with plenty of energy for happy moments with your feet. Happy
uplifting music and so right for the summer.

*Cousin Cockroach - This ain't Tom n' Jerry (Bitasweet) 12"
Actung! Actung! Co-op alert. No compromise Co-op anthem. Forget about
the melody, forget about the song, forget about the harmonies, it ain't
got any. What it does have though is enough energy to take a space ship
to the moon and back. Cousin Cockroach is on a mission, to dissolve your
footwear in the least amount of time possible. Co-op regulars know the
coo, they turn up at the fortnightly sessions with replacement wellies
and Doc Martins in tow. Simply made for a Sunday night at the Velvet
    rooms. Sick.

*Focus - Having your fun (4 Hero bonus bop step)(Versatile) 12"
Could this be Cousin Coachroach and friends in more calmer times?
Another exceptional 4 Hero rub up the right way. Phlash got his pals on
the pulse for this forthcoming twelve on the outta sight Versatile
label. The album arrives this week and Cuki will no doubt inform you all
about one of the most exciting albums of the year. Till then we enjoying
4 Hero rubs and bops to the max!

*Masters at Work - The Amazon (MAW) 12"
Part of one of those unreleased projects. MAW go all Seiji! It's
basically a tribal version of Loose Lips without the vocals. It works
too as the girls hit the dance floor and start winking at the DJ. Yeah,
this did happen! One girl giving me one closed eye and showing me her
love moves on the dance floor. I had to place my hands on the decks to
stop them rising. Watch all the guys now go to the shops and check this
    one out!

*Realside - High Noon (Sirkus) 12"
Realside is Domu in disguise! Forthcoming on the excellent Sirkus
imprint. Side A containing Domu in Detroit disco mode while the flip has
a two step mix rubblings with Maddslinky filling in. Another top notch
    Sirkus release.

*Akufen - Late night munchies (Force) 3xLP
Pitch it down -5 and there you have a Herbert face off. This Akufen
fella is very very talented mutha and coming with the most creative
methods of sampling around. Plenty good things are happening on this
release. Late night munchies is Cuki's favourite track for keeping the
    bunnies dancing!

*Funky Lowlives - Urban Illusion (Cuica remix)(Stereo Deluxe) 12"
Once again its the remixes that kill it! Cuica are the Big Bang man
Simone and Pete Herbert from back in the day Atlas records. They kill it
every time with their monstrous percussive outings. They have a album in
the wings for our favourite San Francisco label. Pure dance floor
runnings. Cuki particularly liking the only vocal sample used! Yeah, I
    know what you mean boys!

*Los Landrones - Mi Amore Es (Waiwan mix)(EarthProject) 12"
Quality Waiwan remix due very soon. All the right ingredients for a
packed and happy dance floor, sexy female vocals, tight percussion,
uplifting keys. Earth Project the label that comes through every single
    time. Looking
forwards to the Waiwan long player and more quality remixes for LL.

*Missus Beastly - Geisha (Meitz remix)(Crippled Dick Hot Wax) 12"
Rough and chunky remix from Volker M for CDHW. 21st century funk and it
really is heavy dose of funk. CDHW coming through with some fine
compilations and some solid remixes of late. Watch this label go from
strength to strength in the 02 and beyond.

Inverse Cinematics - Slow Swing (Pulver) 12"
OK, so all you cats who thought the little independent Pulver label
couldn't climb any higher after the Dublex 'Tango Forte' monster, well I
got news for you! You were wrong! More wrong then you have ever been in
your life! Some serious young talent coming through and believe me, they
have plenty more where this come from. Its Pulver 007 and its shaking
and stirring its way outta the hush hush into the top spot. Even my dead
    granny is dancing to this.

    V/A - The Good Good Vol 2 (2000 Black) CD-R
Dego coming with nuff bullets for the next instalment of Good Good!
Could this be the best nu jazz/broken beat compilation ever? Some of
your all time 2000 Black favourites and some outstanding new licks
exclusive to the album. All the usual west London suspects included,
Domu, Pavel Kostiuk, Seiji, Phlash. Every one a winner.

Lightning Head - Studio Don (Best Seven) CD-R & 12"
If you like your bushes big, then this right up your alley! Hard core
riddems from Glyn Bigga Bush who definitely has more green then brown in
his roll ups. Bushman technologies coming through from Daniels Best
super Sevens label and this one great album on a sound tip that is
developing very nicely. Whatever we are gonna call this sound tip is
anybodies guess? It's all in there. Hold tight for early September
release but check early July for the first twelve from the album, the
    awesome 'Message from the Tribes'

    Stereotyp- My Sound (G-Stone) 3xLP
So hear this! 'We come fi tell ya 'bout the sweet rub a dub'. 18th
district, 21st century, the protégé and time to blow the myth about
Viennese music once and for all! ST comes with my personal favourite
album of the year. And we know Cuki's judgement counts on this one!
Forget two step, we finally go Ragga step! It may have missed out in
Nippon Nik's chart but that's probably because Stefan doesn't have a
Japanese passport. This a real true sound of creation, this a real true
    sound of revelation.

    V/A - Co-operation Session 2 (Co-op) 2xLP
Second session form the Goya camp with all the artists spliting it up
equally. Broken beats by the bucket load and all exclusive to the
session. As rough as it gets the Co-op sound never forgets about the
soul. Big Bang, Rima, Da One Away just a few of the knob twiddlers on
    show.

Amp Fiddler - Basementality (Genuine) 12"
Killa soulful grooves outta Detroit with keyboard king Amp who has
played alongside Carl Craig, Moodymann, Lucy Pearl to name a few
supplying the soul. Kenny Dixon Jr comes with one of those minimal
mixes but it's the flip side that will cause the nappy changes! Yep, the
B sounds like D'Angelo with a wonky wheel on his
    skateboard. Wicked.

    Nusprit Helsinki - S/T (Guidance) 3xLP
Now in all it's finished glory. One of the best albums of the year gets
the vinyl treatment and Cuki feeling the need to inform all you cats
about Nuspirit Helsinki once again. Another great Hush Hush CD-R bites
the dust but this doesn't mean he end of giving props and respect to the
crew in Helsinki. Some albums are more complete then others, this is one
of them. From start to finish from left to right this long player
    fulfils all your wishes.

    Stereotyp - Un Dos Tres/Silence (G Stone) 12"
A little story! Once upon a time at 'Bite your Granny' with the infamous
Nik Weston. Playing back to back with Nippon Nik and Cuki's turn to put
a tune on the deck. Coffee's classic 'Casanova' out of the box and out
of Nippons mouth comes ''It's all over Jazzanova''. End of story and a
bit of nu jazz folklore there for ya. Anyway, with this twelve, it
really is all over Jazzanova. Two 'out of this universe' tracks and one
    being exclusive to the twelve.

Brooks - You, Me & Us (Mantis) CD-R
Monster player and if you didn't know, you could be mistaken for
thinking this was a new Herbert album. In fact, this could be the best
album that Herbert didn't make! Dani makes sexy vocal apperances too.
Yep, more sexy twisted house music that will hopefully blow up big time
for the Brooks and Mantis crew. Check for a track called 'Don't usually
do this' for the helium voiced of you out there.

Slow Supreme - Music under Pressure (Jazid) CD-R
Lets take you back a bit to the wonderful ten inch days of 'Green tea'!
Remember that one? Well Jazid recordings outta Oslo come with a super
long player from the Slow Supreme, the outfit who produced that
memorable piece of music. Tight productions, quirky yet inviting sound,
beats bent, broken and fixed again, all you need for a perfect picnic in
the park with the fairies! An album with plenty of the feel good factor.

    V/A - In Session: Rogall (No Zession) CD-R & 12"
Welcome to Berlin boys and girls! Outstanding mix compilation from the
Sonar kollektiv man Stefan Rogall. I'm searching through my record
collection here at Bootsville to make sure I got some of these tunes
covered, some I'm searching for and just can't find. Looks like nuff
exclusives in the 16 tracks supplied. Solid stuff from the man.

    Amplified Heart/D&B -The Silver Lining/Blue Winds (Gerd mixes)(4lux) 12"
New label on the block and on that tip that makes us become obsessive
musical junkies. Nu jazz renegades look out for this one. That man Gerd
on remix duty and those Gerd productions of late been bringing home the
bacon for sure. Anybody heard the Gerd remix for the boys in Stockholm?
    ;)

Da Lata - The remixes (Palm Pictures) 3xLP
Every single Da Lata remix did it in some way and it was just a matter
of time before the whole remix story was put togther on a complete
compilation. Da Lata don't do it live anymore which is a shame but the
music and the producers live on and the exclusive track 'Golden' is
included in the package. Hold tight for the Bugz remix of this tune too.

Atjazz - Lab Results sampler (Mantis) 12"
Some of those well tasty unreleased remix joints from the Lab Results CD
finally find their way onto a finger licking twelve. The shops better be
ready for the hoards of vinyl junkies who will be on the scent of
    another classy Mantis maxi player.

Swell Session meets Ernesto - Let me decide (Broken beat versions)
    (Hollow) CD-R
That bonkerony broken beat track outta Gonkyburg just got even more
broken. Sick, sick, sick, my London flat mates taking it up a notch or
three. Told ya a while back that the Gonkyburg crews getting it
together. Now we seeing Plej, Jol, Ernesto, Quant featuring in charts
all over the joint. Next level biz from the boys, seek Michael Ruttens
Tribes comp for the original cut but be prepared for these new rubs
forthcoming on Gothenburg's own independent Hollow label. Proud of my
    Swedish brothers.

    This weeks Java Joint
Kes (original soundtrack) by John Cameron
    Trunk KES001LP (1970/2002)
This a bit special as it was never released in vinyl or CD format. Do
seek a very limited one sided album that has appeared in few shops of
late. John Cameron made this epic soundtrack to one of the greatest
    British films of all
time. In fact one of Cuki's top three films. The story of a delinquent
child growing up in the slums of a Yorkshire pit town with only the
smell of coal to look forwards to. His befriending and training of a
    falcon his only route of
escapism. Some of the finest British jazz musicians involved and Harold
McNair's haunting flute playing carry much of the weight. A album that
hasn't left my turntable since my return to Vienna. One of the most
    memorable
film scores I have ever heard.
