Hi there. Its Matthew K from Interactive in Glasgow, Scotland here. Been
incredibly busy (as usual) at Firebird in Glasgow's West End with my usual
Tuesday night residency. Forthcoming dates include the next Radio Magnetic
club night (2nd Aug) at Alaska, the Pyrotechics nights at Club Alaska and
    various Sub Club events.
A very busy week with an absolutely amazing day DJing at the Bacardi B Bar
at the T In The Park festival last weekend. It was an amazing event with
fellow DJ's Harri, Domenic and Billy Woods also appearing during the day. As
well as ourselves DJing, we were joined by master percussionist, vocalist
and host Basil B. Known to many for his releases on Chilli Funk it was an
absloute joy to DJ along with Basil's utterly amazing percussion work. A
lovely guy as well, check out his website at http://www.black2basic.com . He
is currently working on material with Phil Asher, so watch out for some
    killer releases.
Also got the chance to finally hook up with Tom Churchill of Emoticon and
Headspace Records since he has moved to Glasgow. Getting ready to relaunch
his Headspace label, he must be one of the busiest guys around right now
with an amazing amount of new material due out on various labels (including
DIY) over the next few months. Check the http://www.emoticonrecordings.com
    website for more details.
    Anyway, until next week.......

    Matthew K DJ Chart 15th July 2002

    1. Povo: Uam Uam EP (Plej CDr)
Cheers to the Raw Fusion guys for sending me a CDr of their forthcoming
releases. This is due next, 3 tracks of gorgeous jazz heavy electronica with
a dancefloor edge. Reminds me a bit of the Plej material, which is ironic
seeing as they are also signed to Raw Fusion now. One of the finest labels
    around.

    2. Stereotyp: My Sound (G Stone)
NOW ON VINYL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........After the delights of his 12's,
Stereotyp drops 11 tracks of major dubby buisness. Loads of vocals,
drum'n'bass influences, 2 step sounds and a stunning production job results
    in a killer album.

    3. Various: Companionship - Sound Of Scandanavia (April Records)
Thanks to Nik Weston for this beauty. Eleven tracks hailing from the most
exciting musical area around right now. Features the likes of Koop, Jol, Raw
Fusion and Butti 49, every track shows real musicianship and soul leading
the way. All I need is to track it down on vinyl.

    4. Amp Fiddler: Basementality (Genuine)
Exceptional new release that comes across all D'angelo and Spacek but with a
slightly more dancefloor direction. Add to that a remix from the mighty
Moodyman and we have a real classic release here. This is really working the
    dancefloor just now.

    5. Rednose Distrikt: N. Y. B. (Rushour)
Following their new EP on Hum Hum, the Rushour label delight us with another
3 tracks of slow motion house grooves and electronica with cut up hip hop
beats. Futuristic music at its best - I love the Rednose Distrikt.

    6. Telepopmusik meets Banzai Republic: Breathe - X hale remix (CDr)
Thanks to Jesper in Denmark for this amazing remix of Telepopmuzik. Not sure
if this will ever get an official release but it so deserves to, reworking
the original into more chilled terittories but still retaining the
    dancefloor feel. SUPERB.

    7. Russ Gabriel: Flip Down To Break (Emoticon CDr)
Forthcoming on Tom Churchill's Emoticon label, this shows that the recently
quiet Russ Gabriel is ready to unleash a selection of monster tunes. It
starts here with these amazing 3 tracks.

    8. Max Berlin / Maurice Fulton: More G.D.M. Vol. 2 (Tigersushi)
An exciting new label who unearth some long lost gem along with a killer new
track. Their previous release dug up a stunning old Cluster track and this
time its the late 70's sound of French pioneer Max Berlin. Sounding like a
cross between 'Nightclubbing' by Iggy Pop and Serge Gainsbourg, it is
AMAZING. Then, Maurice Fulton drops a gorgeous Detroit piece that reminds of
    Carl Craig's 'Desire'.

    9. Koop: In A Heartbeat - Gerd Remix (CDr)
What a remix! The fab Terry Callier track from the Koop album was always
going to get the remix treatment and this result is awesome adding an even
jazzier feel to it. Unfortunately not due out for a while yet.

    10. Minus 8: Theia (Compost)
One of the finest outfits signed to Compost, his previous 'Elysian Fields'
album is arguably the finest long player Compost have released. This is the
first single from the follow up and its a dancefloor killer.

    11. Jimpster: Domestic Science (Kudos)
How many classic albums can there be this year? Mr. O'Dell delivers his
follow up to 'Messages From The Hub' (not counting the Audiomontage long
player) and its a wonder!!! If you loved 'Funkifier' then this will be
heaven for you.....Also check out the recent releases on Jamie's Freerange
label which is on a roll at the moment.

    12. Nu Spirit Helsinki: S/T (Guidance)
Was sent the CDr of this about 6 months ago and it blew me away then. Now
finally available on triple vinyl, it is one of the years finest albums. No
need for any further discussion - buy it today.

    13. Connective Zone: Qwerty (Emoticon)
It must be nearly a decade since I got my last Connective Zone 12" on the
now defunct A13 label. This is electronica at it mosts musical and cutting
edge. The production on all 4 tracks is AWESOME. It is also one of the most
beautifuly melodic records I have heard in eons.

    14. Los Ladrones: Mi Amore Es (Earthproject)
Wai Wan remixes are always an exciting prospect and he doesn't dissapoint on
this 4 track EP of, yet more, quality Brazilian influenced house. The
    original is excellent as well.

    15. Adam Rudolph & Hamid Drake: Hu Vibrational Bongee Music 1 (East Dev)
Organic world grooves with a slight hip hop touch in the production. All
live, this is far out stuff that recalls 'On The Corner' era Miles Davis.
Killer Eastern percussion with a voodoo vibe.

    16. Garsaaidi: Frank Zaffa Remixes (Compost)
This may be familiar to those who remember the label a few years back.
Indian influences are heavy on the original and these remixes retain that
while injecting it with dancefloor grooves. A bit of an unusual release for
    Compost, but I like it.

    17. Mo: To Be Free - Soultronik Remixes (White)
I'm going for the Mix-Tical Mix where the groove is more downtempo reminding
of those early chill out classics from the pre-cheese Cafe Del Mar era. One
    for those summery evening gigs.

    18. Amplified Orchestra / D & B: Silver Lining EP (4 Lux)
Brand new label associated with Gerd with an exceptional debut release. The
man himself remixes two of the tracks here with 'The Prophecy' being a
delightful dreamy breakbeat house number. Classy package.

    19. Mind Over Midi with Tikiman: Champion / Reveation (Beat Service)
Always been big fans of Tikiman here at Interactive and its good to see him
collaborating with other producers. This is what you would expect - the
finest in deep dubby minimal grooves with the heavenly vocals of Tikiman.

    20. Robert Hood: Who Taught You Math (Peacefrog)
I loved his contribution to the Freezone 7 compilation and here is another
delight. Yet more 80's influences coming to the fore, but things looks to
the future and the result is a highly melodic techno track with a funky
    Daniel Wang type groove.

    21. Tom & Joyce: Tom & Joyce (Yellow / Climate)
The Brazillian sound is just growing stronger and stronger just now and this
is further proof of its high quality. Their debut album after all the
compilation appearances and remixes, this is the sound of the summer
    dancefloors.

    22. Jeff Samual: New Age Mold (Emoticon)
Some more gorgeous electronic soul music from Emoticon. 4 tracks that cover
techno, ambient and down tempo, the attention to detail and production is
    amazing.

    23. Roots Manuva: Dub Come Save Me (CDr)
For those lucky enough to have picked up the super rare 'Witness Dub' 7"
will know what a gem this album is. Roots Manuva is perfectly suited to dub
    re-interpretations and this is sublime.

    24. Thirdface: Read U My Soul (Full Cycle)
Astounding release from Full Cycle that shows them moving completely away
from drum'n'bass. The A side is a slice of dark voodoo inspired jazz with
heaps of soul, while 'Got To Move' is a moodier, deeper affair being a
    delightful jazz ballad. AWESOME.

    25. Pepita Project: Pepita Theme (Personal Records)
Thanks to Herr Preddy for this killer new release on his, always reliable,
Personal label. Quality deep house grooves with an amazing remix from
Spectrum Works' Marcus Worgull in a jazz piano meets old school Chicago
    house kind of vibe.

    26. Nicole Conte: Jet Sounds Revisited Volume 1 (Schema)
Fine remixes from Les Gammas, Micatone, Freeform Arkestra, Espen Home and
Dining Rooms spread over 2 x 10" singles. Yet another classic release from
    Italy's Schema label.

    27. Andre Theis: Komm.test Vol.2 (One Nine One)
Herr Preddy is also responsible for this label where Andre drops his second
volume of instrumental hip hop cuts showing him developing his sound into
    more DJ Shadow type territories.

    28. Various: As We Travel (Harmless)
The predecesor 'Make Music' is the finest release on Harmless' mighty label
but this follow up is just as worthy with my current favourites including
Lyn Christopher and Sinto. This is psychadelic soul at its finest.

    29. Loose Ensemble: Sonic Swamp / Apollo Soul (Foundation Music)
The kind of dancefloor record I love. Kind of broken beat but with a
smoother groove with glorious jazz infused instrumentation and an influence
of Detroit makes for a sure fire winner.

    30. Various: Day By Day (Delsin)
CD only compilation from one of the finest labels in the world today.
Including all the highlights from the last year or so, when you hear them
all together you realise the amazing quality of their label. For anyone who
doesn't have any Delsin releases - buy this.

    31. Various: Compilation 2 (Music For Speakers)
Another CD only compilation that shows an unsurpasable label at its prime.
Out there on their own, artists like David Caron, Aardvark and Sonar Lodge
all drop killers an this album.

    32. Doctor L: Let Me Out EP (Comet)
Got a tasty little package from the Comet crew the other day (thanks guys)
and it included this gem. I'm going for 'Baby Its All Right' with its
gorgeous flute drifting over the offbeats. LUSH.

    33. Da Lata: Golden (Palm Pictures)
Promo only 12 from forthcoming remix album, it features 2 killer mixes. Bugz
in The Attic continue to blow us away with their offbeat re-interpretation
while Patlife builds up the beats while never needing to go into a full on
drum'n'bass track. The album should be a winner.

    34. Peace Orchestra: Reset (K7)
Triple vinyl package of remixes from the utterly amazing Kruder album of
last year. All the big names are here - Gotan Project, Beanfield, Truby
Trio, etc. with jazz fusion coming to the fore. However its the downtempo
remixes by Zero DB and Chateau Flight that are getting the most plays from
    me.

    35. Flunk: For Sleepyheads Only (Beat Service)
Thanks to those lovely people from Beat Service who sent me a fantastic
batch of goodies during the week. Expect to see more of their catalogue
appear in my charts over the next couple of weeks but this is already a
favourite. Superb album going from Bjork style chill out tracks to dubbier
    grooves.

    36. Rednose Distrikt: Hoor's EP (Hum Hum)
The follow up to potentially the best track of the year is here and it
doesn't dissapoint. More mid to down tempo groovers with a distinctly funk
influence, expect this to be a grower.

    37. Amma: On My Own - Landslide & Spectre Remixes (Inspirit Recordings)
One of the finest purveyers of lush 2 step. Both mixes here are a delight
with the Spectre one narrowly coming out on top. Watch out for Inspirit
Recordings, they are on the cutting edge right now.

    38. Chari Chari: Across The Universe - Frankie Valentine Remix (Ultima)
Check this out. One of Japan's finest get the remix from Frankie Valentine
on a new 12" out of Portugal. Spiritual dancefloor grooves with percussion
that not even Clausell could match. Very special indeed. Check the album as
    well.

    39. Benny III, Kode 9 & Culprit: Fat Larry's Skank (Tempa)
The Tempa label blow us away with an amazing Indian style 2 step monster
with an eerie flute drifting over the top of this dancefloor killer. Watch
out for Kode 9 - a name for the future and be sure to check out the
forthcoming Tempa compilation - the perfect starting place for all those yet
    to hear their delights.

    40. Les Gammas: Outra Vida - Remixes (Compost)
Featuring the vocal talents of Smoke City's Nina Miranda, its another
Brazilian style gem. I'm going for the DJ Patlife remix where the drum 'n'
bass producer scores his best ever remix.

This chart is sent to hundereds of press publications, magazines, labels,
DJ's producers, and promotion companies throughout the world on a weekly
    basis.
