I'm not blown away by Private Press as whole; I probably need to give
it more listens. However, the song Six Days is a masterpiece in my
opinion. The swirling strings intro is one of the reasons why I get
out of bed in the morning for music. If I could stop playing this
song, maybe I could listen to the rest of the album more.
I was wondering if there was any old school stuff that has the same
vibe as "six days". I have a lot of david axelrod stuff; it's similar
in mood, but not close. Any recommendations?
I'm always late, but I just picked up Recloose's Cardiology. It's
amazing how much good music is out right now. Simply unbelievable. I
can't belive that the "I Can't Take it" song is like two years old
now. Dwele's vocals are awesome. Can't wait for dwele's full length.
I also picked up herbert's double disc "secondhand sounds"; an
exceptional collection of remixes. Normally, the remix albums don't
hold up as a whole (i.e. the fila brazilia one comes to mind), but
this one does. He has a couple of tracks which feature terra deva. I
really liked her album, fresh start, on om records. Does anyone know
what she is currently up to?
I also picked up hefner's remix album "reworks." The fink song he
remixes, "ever since I was a kid it seemed I collected something,"
fits me to a tee. I started out collecting barbie dolls which lead to
collecting prince and all of his protege's stuff (not eating, saving
all my lunch money to buy the latest 12inch; buying double copies of
stuff;), and now I collect all genres of music. When will it stop? It
probably won't; it's definitely an addiction, but it's nice to belong
to a community that has the same music collecting bug that I do.
