The best set of the conference for me was actually a Hip Hop set spun by DJ ?uestlove of the Roots at the BBE party at club Goddess, Monday night. I'm not a huge hip hop head, though I like it when it's good, and I definitely didn't go there that night expecting to spend 2 hours jamming to hip hop, but the stuff this guy was playing was so funky, classic, dirty, and just plain nice, there was no way I was going out to the main room to here Jazzanova play Salsa (sorry guys) ?uestlove was mixing, and scratching perfectly, not too much scratch, but just enough, and even using the delay effects on the Pioneer mixer they brought in. The MC also showed amazing restraint, complementing the raps on the records perfectly (anyone know who he was?) It's ironic because Goddess has over the last year "degenerated" into a hip hop club, where every night you can hear every track you've already heard a million times on the local rap stations... it's ridiculous. However, none of the regular crowd was there to witness this spectacular set, and I'm sure quite a few of them would have given their best set of rims just to have been there, had they known what was going down.
So anyway, anyone else who was at the conference care to share their highlight(s)?
peace&vibes
Eric
