I've been a lister since November of 1999 (thank goodness for the AJ
archive to pin that date down!).
Like the others who have responded, I have found this to have been most
invaluable. I've met a few people from this list in person, and I do
like the like-mindedness in terms of music and ideas and what not.
I often look forward to most of the charts from around the globe to see
what those places are feeling. It's refreshing that even in a small town
like San Luis Obispo California, there are listeners who hunger for
something new, fresh, and different. The list, and the contacts I've
made through it, certainly has been good.
About "evolving" from merely a poster: it surely is true for some of us.
I am still a radio DJ and the station's RPM director, but recently I've
bought a pair of Technics 1200s and a new mixer. And there's much more
where that comes from.
But the end point is that while it would be sad that Harvard's hip-hop
list may be going away, it's good to see this list moving along.
