Hi All,
Man, all I had to do was mention the word DISCO and
everyone's panties gets in a wad :) Folks, it's only
music, and like acid jazz, some of it was good and A
LOT of it wasn't. When I said that I hope acid jazz
doesn't go the way of disco, I meant that I hope that
acid jazz wasn't tainted so badly that no artist would
consider producing that type of music again. For me,
acid jazz has a certain vibe to it. Take for example,
the song by Remy Shand called 'Take A Message'. To me,
that has acid jazz written all over it. Same thing
with Jill Scott's 'A Long Walk' or anything from
Maysa's 'All My Life' CD. It's apparent that acid jazz
as a musical movement has run its course, but the
music itself should be able to linger a bit. Whoever
said that it was morphing into different things was
right. Hell, acid jazz itself morphed from early
fusion, and it was a refreshing change from all the
overproduced crap out there. Now everything's
splintered off into hybrids of this and that, and
that's fine. I just get nostalgic for the tone that
was set back then. In this post 9-11 world, I just
hope that something just as musically positive can cut
through the haze.
Take Care-----Paul Berger---
(BTW, Loius Johnson ruled everything he played on, and
I'm sad to see that he's retired. He has that right,
and I'm sure his royalties from the Thriller album
took care of him nicely.)
