STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)
Hello all
Which was the only label to feature 2 tunes in the Stylin Best of 2001 show?
It was Norway's Jazzland Records for cuts from the wonderful Beady Belle
"Home" and Bugge Wesseltoft "Moving" albums. This week I'll be speaking with
Bugge - who is also the owner of the label - about the meeting of the jazz
scene and the dance scene in Oslo.
I hope you caught last week's mix from Space Clique - wonderful sounds
superbly mixed, and a great funny ending with Sun Ra. And even though none
of their own productions featured in the mix, they have some fine music out
and about, much of it released by Germany's Spinning Wheel Records. I should
have some new material of theirs for this week's show, and a Volker Meitz
remix of one of their tunes will be available on my Other-Worldly Fusions
compilation out soon. Big thanks to Reinhard at Spinning Wheel for hooking
it all up.
Trainspotters Corner went 3 ways once again, with a track from French
production outfit Nu Tropic. Their "Hybrid Tempoz" EP is the first I've
heard from them, but I noticed a credit for Jazzamar as one of the
musicians, who also compiled the incredible "Brasil Jazz Pulsation"
compilation for Superclasse. Anyway, I had to play the track "Nouvelles
Tropiques" for its drum samples from the mad latin disco of "El Caravanero"
by Chocolats (Salsoul) and keyboard hook from Jorge Ben's "Comanche". Very
nice stuff. Jimmy also called up during the show to point out that the Jorge
Ben track was also sampled by Black Eyed Peas for their track "Fallin Up".
Phew!
until next time
