STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)
Hello all
The influence of the great saxophonist and composer Pharoah Sanders is such
that he deserved a 3-way Trainspotters' Corner last week. He and sometime
keyboard collaborator Lonnie Liston Smith appear alongside Apani and DJ
Spinna on the beautiful "Love", from the latest Japan-only CD by Lonesome
Echo Production. Meanwhile, Pharoah's great tune "Hum Allah" from the
"Jewels of Thought" LP (Impulse, 1969) has provided the harmonic inspiration
for Stylin favourite Peven Everett to drop the uptempo fusion workout
"Sankofa" (from his new "Studio Confessions" album). "Hum Allah" was
actually a different version of Pharoah's "Prince of Peace" which was
recorded earlier in 1969 for the great Strata East Records. Lonnie Liston
Smith featured on both recordings.

Well it was better to have BNX on live after all. He came into the studio
with a big bag of records and then decided to play nothing but heavyweight
CDRs, almost all from his native France. The Jazzamar and Walters tune sadly
sounds like it may never get a release, but the new album from BNX's Zimpala
outfit is due on Platinum Records in early 2003. And the preview cuts we
heard sound mighty fine. Also lookout for remixes from the likes of
Moonstarr, Volker Meitz, Nutropic and others.
This week, it's Rainer Truby from Compost Records.
until then
