I definitely recommend the Los Amigos Invisibles show. I saw them in
Toronto two, maybe three years ago and it remains one of my all-time
favourite live shows. Loads of sophomoric, funky fun! That said, I'm not a
fan of their newest LP and the MAW remix of one its tracks.

As I always say, checking giantstep.net is always a good way to go. I saw
quickly that there is a Lazy Dog (Everything But the Girl) show at the
Bowery Ballroom. The best source for all that goes on in NYC is Timeout NY
the weekly magazine. I've never really checked the web-site as I get a
subscription every week in the mail, but you may be able to find something
http://www.timeoutny.com/. It probably won't be as extensive as the actual
zine so your best bet is to just pick one up when you get here and go
straight to either the CLUB section or the MUSIC section. VillageVoice is
the free weekly newspaper you can find everywhere (they also have a
web-site). They have listings of good happenings as well. But Timeout will
be the best bet. Make sure you try to check out Halcyon in Brooklyn (a cool
intimate coffeshop/bar/record shop/furniture shop/etc). Shelter the club is
usually banging on Saturdays. It's strictly house...

...just checked my mail and got the new Timeout. Here's what I recommend:

    wed 27
Royal Flush at Coz (511 e 6th st btwn a & b): DJs Andy Yao, Yellowtail and
guests (tonight, Irma's Fabrizio and Taka Sakano) provide a biweekly mix of
regal rhythms-broken beat, nu-jazz and related styles-st this E Village
    hangout)

NO Sleep til Basting at Plant Bar (217 e 3rd st btwn B & C): DJ Chloe
(Heavenly Birds) and Rory spin funk, punk, pop and disco at this always fun
    little drinkery.

Los Amigos Invisibles at S.O.B.s 9pm $18 Venezuelan funk, disco, house
group. pretty fun. S.O.Bs is dope for dancing to bands.

the Roots at Mercury Lounge $25 probably sold out. this place is tiny. I'm
seeing the boys this sunday at Joe's Pub!!!

Pharoah Sanders Quartet at Birdland 9,11pm $30 cover, minimum $10 drx

get Timeout for 28-29 gigs. This one only goes til the 27th.

    Happy NYC Thanksgiving!
