This is kinda' long, folks. But - like most of you - I REALLY enjoy sharing
my music, and what I love. So, I have comments throughout on some of the
songs. Since mine is a mix that I burned myself I'm just going to list the
songs I've been listening to across two CDs.
Also, I plan to put together my "Motivational Piece". It'll be a mix of
good, motivational songs that I can keep for myself and maybe give to some
friends. I'm going to include things like Jill Scott's "Try", Brand New
Heavies "You are the Universe", etc. If ya'll have ANY suggestions for this
mix, please let me know.
Here's Terrell's Turkey Day Mix:
- Change the World (DJ Buhtl Remix) - Clapton, Babyface
- Trust Me - Guru featuring N'Dea Davenport
- My Vision - Jakata f/. Seal
- Spinnin' Wheel - Blood, Sweat & Tears (I LOVE this song - want my band to
remake it).
- Sometimes (Masters at Work Remix) - Brand New Heavies
- Sometimes (Ummah Remix) - BNH
- So Fly - BNH
- Dream Come True - BNH (This is my fave BNH tune, by the way)
- I Like It - BNH (Yeah, so I really like their sound)
- Celebrate Me Home - Kenny Loggins. Love KL - he writes some awesome stuff.
- This is It - Kenny Loggins
- A Long Walk - Jill Scott
- Brotha' - Jill Scott
- Gettin' in the Way - Jill Scott (this was the breakout hit for JS)
- It's Love - Jill Scott (THIS IS IT - THIS IS THE SOUND I SEARCH FOR.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING A LISTEN).
- Try - Jill Scott (Very motivational song. It'll be the centerpiece of my
"Motivation Piece" CD that I put together.
- Can't Find my Way Home - Alana Davis (kinda' folky soul from an underrated
young lady. You probably remember her remake of Ani DiFranco's "32
Flavors").
- Here But I'm Gone - Curtis Mayfield f/. Lauryn Hill
- Rock Steady - Aretha Franklin (OOOOOWWWWWWEEEEEE! - you have to be there!)
- Body and Soul - Anita O'Day. (I'm a big fan of the old school female jazz
vocalists. Especially the "dirty" ones. Ella and Anita O' had some real grit
and emotion behind whatever they sang. When I sing a tune, these ladies are
my mentors. If you like the old school stuff at all, check her out. She put
words to some swinging standards, like "Peel me a Grape" and "Sing, Sing,
Sing". Loads of fun!
- Hershey Bar - Anita O'Day
- A Night in Tunisia - Anita O'Day
- Sing, Sing, Sing - Anita O'Day
- A Train - Anita O'Day
- The Last Temptaion - Corey Glover & Vice (Vice was Corey's last band - and
I believe his ONLY band - between the disbanding of Living Colour and their
recent reunion. Corey's really reached out and tried some different styles;
and he is fully competent within each one. He's also one of my "guides" in
my musical journey. He's one of a handful of modern African-American rock
vocalists. But he has the VOICE. This awesome voice that seems to complement
American music: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country, Gospel. You name it, I honestly
believe he can sing it.
- Soul Sister - Cree Summer (You may remember Cree as "Freddie" on the COSBY
SHOW spin-off, A DIFFERENT WORLD. She's all grown up, living with Lenny
Kravitz, and making great music. Cree's also doing quite a bit of voice-over
and cartoon work. To my knowledge she has released only one album, and what
an album it is. Her lyrics are DEEP ("Curious white boy / when am I gonna'
meet your mama . . . can't hide me in dark, high places . . . all my jungle
come out . . . my virginity, hanging from your family tree - "Curious White
Boy"). It's a nice mix of rock (the Lenny influence) and neo-soul.
- Deliciously Down - Cree Summer
