Dear friends,
The news is almost 2 weeks old but we have to share with you because this is the most important thing that happened to us in the last two years: Radio Tilos got a frequency again! The legendary radio station of the Budapest underground which could be only heard on internet and cable in the last two years can start again its broadcasting in a few months. This means that almost three million people in the next seven years will be able to listen to the radio in the area of Budapest (those of you who missed the whole story completely check out this feature: http://www.livebudapest.com/features_4.html).
Two of the Crate Soul bradaz, Shuriken and Erik Sumo are just on their way back from Sarajevo where they spent two days hanging out with the local gangstaz - Enes and Emir Haracic - and Gerry O'Rourke (Foundation Records/Higher Ground Radio Show). They also had a great party together. You can imagine how the party rocked when you know that while they played the hot Carmel remix of Quantic's Off The Beaten Track the amp burned out.
Respect and thanks again to Vlado Dzihan and Mario Kamien who organised a brilliant concert on 28th September in Vienna. You are not only the funniest persons but among the few djs who are real musicians.
Here comes a short reading from the very beginning of radio and djing:
"The history of the DJ begins with the history of the radio. In 1906 [.] the two American engineers Reginald A. Fessenden and Lee DeForest succeeded in broadcasting uncoded sound signals. The conditions for broadcasting music, language and sounds to a number of receivers were now in place: on Christmas Eve 1906 came the 'birth of radio as a publicity medium', when ships equipped with radios on the East coast of the USA were able to receive the first radio programme. From Brant Rock (near Boston) in Massachusetts Fessenden broadcast a contemplative programme consisting of readings from the Gospel of St Luke, embellished with songs and violin solos by the radio pioneer. But with Christmas programme Fessenden also became the first DJ, when he broadcast a recording of Handel's Largo through the airwaves.
He was the first DJ because he wasn't just playing records for himself or his family, friends or acquaintances, but in a medium, which while it was still ideally suited to reception by the public. And the playing of the record was part of a programme of entertainment and contemplation."
