Greetings,
There are some outstanding new releases this week, so let's get right to them:
"On-U Sound Presents Chainstore Massacre" - When Adrian Sherwood came
to S.F. last year for Dub Mission's anniversary party, he brought
along Ghetto Priest and a slew of new tracks that had the whole room
grooving until the lights came up. Some of those tracks are now
available on this new compilation and will no doubt blow out a few
subwoofers along the way. Featured artists include Mark Stewart,
Little Axe (Skip McDonald), Dub Syndicate, Mutant HiFi, Junior
Delgado and ten others. Grab this limited edition CD (only 10,000
pressed) when it drops in November.
Yukihiro Fukutomi: "Love Each Other" - After playing the title track
earlier this year, I had high hopes for the album and I'm delighted
to say that I'm not disappointed in the least. This is superb jazzy
house with bossa beats and smooth vocals. Fukutomi began his career
as a DJ in the late '80s and evolved into a talented composer,
arranger, programmer and producer. This is his fourth album and in my
opinion, his best.
Vikter Duplaix: "International Affairs" - Everything you expected
from Mr. D and more - sexy, soulful and slickly produced. The last
ten years of songwriting, producing and DJing are about to pay off
handsomely for this Philly boy and we're happy to be able to be of
assistance. The official release date is not until early 2003, so
this will be one of your earliest opportunities to check out the
full-length.
Burdy: "42" - One of three excellent new releases from Vienna's
Sunshine Enterprises. Known for his work as a member of Baby Mammoth,
Burdy takes flight with a diverse collection of tunes that run the
gamut from his signature downbeats to uptempo house and plenty of
dubby interludes to keep the headz happy.
"Sunshine Club 3 Meierei" - According to the info included here, Club
Meirerei is the place to be for nu-jazz, funk & soul in Vienna. This
superb collection of tunes represents the artists and overall vibe of
this 19th century palais, when the party is in full swing. Every
selection is outstanding, with most being slow groovers, at least
until track 11, where the tempo picks up and takes off for the
duration. Check the lineup at http://www.sunshine.at/meierei/cd.html.
Karuan: "Dohuki Ballet" - Born to Kurdish parents and being raised in
Vienna may account for the cinematic feel that permeates "Dohuki
Ballet." Lazy beats and melodies with a touch of Middle Eastern
instrumentation will appeal to fans of Thievery Corporation and those
who like a bit of exotic spice on the dancefloor.
Gabin: "Gabin" - A delicious puff pastry from France, filled with an
assortment of treats - a bit of house, '40s jazz, downtempo and sexy
soundtrack music. The press releases compare Gabin to St. Germain,
but it's really only true for one song. You should be hearing plenty
of Gabin in your local bistro in the very near future.
That's a sample of what's in store for this evening's show. We'll
also have tickets for Mr. Scruff this coming Friday, so be listening
for your chance to win.
Upcoming in the weeks ahead: exclusive mixes from Seelenluft,
Lightning Head and more.
Until next time, ciao for now!
David
