The Modern Groove Assembly will be bringing the live jazz breakbeats, funk,
and nu soul to "A&R" from Blue Vinyl productions this Thursday, Sept. 5th, @
1652 N. Cherokee, Hollywood, CA (Cherokee and Hollywood Blvd.)
This is a free event to honor Sept. 11; United Way Donations will be taken
at the door, if you're in the generous mood. The MGA is fresh off their
unbelievably hot appearance at the Watts Summer Festival, and primed and
ready to deliver truckloads of jazz and breaks.
We've got a new track whipped up just for the occasion, which takes liberal
dashes from Roni Size, Miles Davis, Donnie Hathaway, and Stevie Wonder and
tosses them all in the blender. The outcome? Here for yourself, Thursday
night, 11 pm.
Also on the bill, DJ Mark Lewis, tabbed one of the "top 10 breakout
superstar DJ's of the new millenium" by Mixmag UK. He has performed
virtually everywhere, including Twilo in New York - Release in San
Francisco - The Perfecto tour with Paul Oakenfold UK/US, Ministry of Sound -
Cream - Gatecrasher in the UK - Space & Pacha in Ibiza - The Essential tour
with Pete Tong in South Africa - Dance Valley Festival in Holland etc etc.
His production and remixing credits including works with Chaka Khan, Miami
Sound Machine, Rozalla, Ace of Base & Mike Oldfield.
If that's not enough, you've got DJ's Theory and Outer from Open Minds
Collective spinning deep house and downtempo grooves outside, with JT Taylor
and Mike Bruel from Golden Rule giving you the breaks inside.
The event is sponsored by Groove Fitness who will be giving away two 3 month
memberships. (A $299 value!)
Come introduce yourself to the heavy jazz funk sounds of the Modern Groove
Assembly.
And as always, stop by and say hi!
