Greetings,
So much music - so little time.....here are some highlights:
Jazzanova: Remixed - Most of (if not all) the In Between mixes from the 12"s, promo CDs and then some. Included is the Remixes From Japan EP and new interpretations from DJ Ghe, Beanfield, King Britt, Bugz In The Attic, Forss and others. Twenty-three tracks of auditory goodness.
Zero dB: Reconstruction - Speaking of remixes, here's the collection that many have been waiting for. Chris and Neil's re-workings of Sun Ra's "Satellites Are Spinning," Suba's "Samba Do Gringo," "E Ruim" by Grupo Batuque and six others are here, including two selections making their debut appearance. Future music that's truly essential.
V/A: Now's The Time compiled by Kevin LeGendre - the host of the BBC London radio program collects some of the show's highlights and what highlights they are! Jazz from around the globe representing some of the genre's most innovative artists working in a myriad of styles. Sounds of Africa, the Middle East, Jamaica and Eastern Europe are given breathtaking arrangements by Charles Brackeen, Omar Sosa, Tied & Tickled Trio, Peter Apfelbaum and Kadash & The Nile Troup, to name a few. Kudos to Cosmic Sounds for yet another outstanding release.
Beady Belle: Cewbeagappic - I loved the first album, but this sophomore release adds new depth and nuance to Beady Belle's songwriting and musicianship. Consisting mainly of slow burners and mid-tempo grooves, Cewbeagappic defines the word elegant.
Micatone: Is You Is - We've been playing "Got To Give It Up" since last year when Jazzanova stopped by and now the full album is here. Jazz, pop and soul that you can dance and romance to, performed by a red-hot band fronted by Lisa Bassenge, whose voice conveys just the right amounts of sex and sass.
Moodymann: Silence In The Secret Garden - Dark, deep, Detroit house that veers off into impossible directions, then loops back upon itself. You may occasionally wind up scratching your head in mystery about the arrangements, but is that a bad thing?
There's also new music from Rima, Tricky, Ernesto's, Izzy Dunn, Xploding Plastix and tickets for Thursday's appearance by LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad at Ruby Skye. I hope you'll tune in...
Until next week - ciao for now!
David
