• Next message: 21st century soul: "[acid-jazz] (SF) True Intent this Saturday!"

I was shocked to hear the news of the passing of Edwin Starr.
Of course Mr. Starr was a member of the Soul-Mailing List for many years, so it's also much
more than yet another all too frequent passing of another one of our Black Cultural Icons.
It's like losing a member of the family.
Mr. Starr was a "lurker" on our mailing list and would often write commentary to me on the
sly regarding some of what he read on the mailing list.

Edwin Starr was a pioneering INDEPENDENT ARTIST, setting up an ecommerce capability on his
website, leading the way for Classic Soul artists and setting a direction for those who were
unsure if they should take the plunge into theis 'new technology'.

In fact he just wrote to me recently to reply to Soul-Patrollers wishing him a happy
birthday...

THANK YOU FOR WISHING ME A HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
IF YOU NEED ME PLEASE WRITE OR CALL.

REGARDS,
EDWIN
--------------------------------------

And now he is gone....

I am certain that Edwin Starr will get
"a few props, for a few days"

And then he will be quickly forgotten, only to be dusted off again at some anti war rally for
a few moments when they play WAR.
(and then forgotten once again)

And for those of you out there who are shaking your heads and saying....
(Oh no Bob, you must be talking about those 'other people', not me....)

Ask yourselves these questions...

- Did I even bother to take a listen to Edwin Starr's NEW INDEPENDENTLY PRODUCED CD - 'All
THE WAY LIVE', featuring a SLAMMIN LIVE CONCERT of Edwin Starr singing all of his greatest
hits?
It's been playing on www.soul-patrol.net for the past year at:

http://www.soul-patrol.net/edwin.ram
Listen To Edwin Starr - All The Way Live

- Did I bother to go on over to Mr. Starr's website at:
http://www.edwinstarr.info/cdlisting.htm
and buy the CD, with the full knowledge that Edwin Starr would get ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the
money, and not have to give ONE PENNY to ANY STINKIN RECORD COMPANY?

- When I saw Edwin Starr's NEW INDEPENDENTLY PRODUCED CD - 'All THE WAY LIVE', featuring a
SLAMMIN LIVE CONCERT of Edwin Starr singing all of his greatest hits listed as one of the TOP
TWENTY CD's RELEASED IN THE YEAR 2002, did I take that seriously?

- When I saw that Edwin Starr was going to appear in the Soul-Patrol chat room back in
December of 2001, did I say to myself (big friggin deal?)

just ask yourself those questions...

Of course WE ARE going to properly HONOR MR. EDWIN STARR on the Soul-Patrol website, the man

(I just got home from work)

So why would I do all of this?

CUZ FUNKEE MUSIC...
