Depends if you're going vinyl->disk or CD->disk as well. Either way
you should do some math to figure out how many songs will fit on your
drive.
Really you want to go uncompressed if possible. Fry's Electronics has
sweet 200GB Western Digital drives (PC) (8.9ms seek, 8mb cache (pretty
sweet!)) for $180 including tax right now ($120 rebate). That would
hold about 230 CD's in uncompressed .wav format. 1 CD = 700MB and
about 1,000 MB = 1 GB.
To do this you could simply use a jukebox program like:
(PC)
http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/
that catalogues and classify's your collection nicely, or a simply tool
that just rips the CD's onto your harddrive. Many of these can be
found on download.com .
