STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

When wasn't Roy Ayers the man?
the 60s - apprenticeships in the Chico Hamilton and Herbie Mann bands
the 70s - his groundbreaking Ubiquity group
the 80s - the boogie soul releases of his Uno Melodic label
the 90s - becoming one of the most-sampled artists in hip hop and working
with Guru, the Roots & MAW
the 00s - being interviewed for Stylin
I guess the answer must be "never". Lookout for his visit to Melbourne on
Easter Sunday at the Prince and if you're coming, come early for my tribute
set. Also Roy's new album "Mahogany Vibes" will drop in May with a guest
appearance from Erykah Badu and new versions of the classics "Everybody
    Loves the Sunshine" and "Searching".

I was planning to feature Forss in Trainspotters' Corner until I listened
more closely to the disco drum & bass of Blue Skin's "Discoroo" which takes
little sped-up pieces from Roy's "Running Away" (also memorably sampled in A
Tribe Called Quest's "Description of a Fool"). It seemed like the perfect
    lead in to the interview.

The legends keep coming: next week it will be folk soul jazz singer
    songwriter guitarist Terry Callier.

    until then
    Ennio Styles
