STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

Firstly to people who've emailed me - I'm getting to it! Bit of a backlog at
    the moment.

After I was first introduced to the music of Forss by Jazzanova over a year
ago, his album "Soulhack" has now been mastered and readied for a June
release through Sonar Kollektiv. The sound of his ruthlessly chopped jazz
and beats still sounds fresh, and the tune "Flickermood" provides a great
example. Opening with the familiar uptempo drums and bass from Lorez
Alexandria's funky jazz vocal "Baltimore Oriole", these quickly break down
into smaller pieces and within seconds transform into a loping headnod
    groove.

If you check Friday's playlist below, you'll see that I've included the
recording dates of the various Terry Callier tunes that I played during my
interview with the man. These tracks span nearly 40 years of writing and
recording great songs in his unique folk soul jazz style. His influence on
the next generation of musicians and producers is also evident from his
collaborations with the likes of Paul Weller, Beth Orton, Koop & 4 Hero. A
album featuring remixes of Terry's music is due to appear later this year on
Mr Bongo, under the excellent title "Total Recal". Finally Terry has made
his way to Australia and will be performing tomorrow (Tuesday) night at the
Corner after I've spun a few tunes. It'll be Terry on vocals and guitar,
accompanied by bass and percussion. Nice.

This Friday, I'll have an interview with Norwegian artist Beady Belle who
will shortly release her second album for Jazzland Records.

Good to see many of you along at Open Sesame last Thursday night for The
Bamboos plus horns and last night for Roy Ayers. This week's calendar
remains full. As well as Terry on Tuesday, we're having a Brazilian Beats
night at Open Sesame this Thursday before the Anzac Day holiday. There'll be
giveaways of "Brazilian Beats Vol 4" from Mr Bongo/Inertia, a live capoeira
performance, Brazilian percussion and Kano and I busting out our favourite
Brazilian tunes from the 60s to now.

    until then
    Ennio Styles
