    **more info on Kode 9**

Kode9 has followed the freshest wave of the hyperdub virus into the 21st
century, a mutating sound, as much influenced by Jamaican dub and dancehall,
German dub techno/microhouse as London's jungle and drum'n'bass scenes. He
is currently pushing a distinctly South London sound, playing a mixture of
dancehall influenced bass heavy garage, variously known as dubstep, sublow,
grime and garage rap. In 2000-2001, kode9 promoted the Hyperdub sessions at
the Bug Bar in Brixton, South London, the first night in the capital to push
the dubstep vibe, featuring guests like Horsepower's Benny ill.
With appearances at the Notting hill Carnival and early dark garage nights
such as Corrosion, kode9 is now a resident at the pace setting underground
night Forward>>, alongside the likes of Zed Bias, Oris Jay, J 'Da' Flex,
Hatcha and the Slaughter Mob etc. He is known for his deep, moody selection
and prolonged twisted mixes. Kode9 hosts the Forward>> show weekly
(Thursdays 7-9pm) on the London underground's most respected pirate radio
station, Rinse FM 100.3.(Also home to shows by the likes of Dizzee Rascal &
Wiley's Roll Deep Crew, Oris Jay & Mark One's Virus Syndicate, Plasticman,
    DJ Hatcha and Crazy D)
With the Forward>> crew, kode9 has played several times at the True Playaz
nights at London's Fabric and at Andy Weatherall's Haywire sessions. Kode9
also hosted the Hyperdub Transmission sessions on award winning internet
radio station www.groovetech.com from 2001 to 2003, welcoming guests such as
El-B, Horsepower, Zed Bias and the SLT Mob. In the last couple of years,
Kode9 has done much to take the South London sound to an international
audience, DJing in Toronto (Canada), Nantes & Lille (France), Berlin
(Germany), Oslo (Norway), Tel Aviv (Israel), Glasgow (Scotland).

    Producer
Kode9 has been producing, and working on video soundtracks since the
mid-1990s although most of his productions remain unreleased. Those that
have surfaced include the distorted drum'n'bass monster 'Katak' released on
the label Katasonix in the late 1990s, 'Fat Larry's Skank'/'Tales of the
Basside' co-produced with Benny ill from Horsepower and released on Tempa
records in 2002, and 'Babylon', opening track on the highly acclaimed
Dubstep Allstars Compilation in 2003, to be released on 12 on Tempa again
    later in 2003.

    **more info on Moonstarr**

Kevin Moon, aka Moonstarr, first started producing music and DJing at the
age of 17. Now 25, he strives to push the boundaries of electronic music by
defying any categories or genres. Citing influences such as Underground
Resistance (Detroit Techno), DJ Premier (Hip Hop) and Banden Powell
(Brazilian Bossa Nova), Moonstarr's sound keeps evolving and expanding.
His first release, 1997's Hexed on Wha?naut Records, was well received by
local DJs. The three Moonstarr tracks spanned drum n bass to broken beat and
beyond. Following the release of the Hexed EP, Moonstarr saw a lull in the
electronic music scene in Toronto. Seeing no outlet for his music and the
music of his peers, he decided to found his own record label.
On his way to his mundane day job, Moonstarr previewed friend's demo tapes
while riding the subway. Moonstarr saw the potential and innovation behind
these raw recordings and in 1998 he approached a circle of underground
musicians and like-minded friends to form Public Transit Recordings (PTR).

The first PTR release, the compilation Code: 416, received heavy rotation on
college radio stations across Ontario. Critics in magazines such as Now,
Eye, Exclaim! and Peace Magazine praised the album and helped PTR make a
name for itself. With the release of the vinyl-only EP Metropass in 1999 and
the CD compilation The Blue Night Network in 2000, Public Transit Recordings
and Moonstarr have established themselves in the field of electronic music.
Moonstarr has also received support from the international music community,
sharing one of two 12" singles with the UK's Cold Mission (aka Marc Mack of
    4-Hero).
After executive producing the LAL album in 2000, Moonstarr finally released
his first EP Dupont last year. According to Moonstarr, Dupont "is a
broken-down musical expression about the culture of the city I live in".
Dupont is currently available on a double 12", and has received support from
DJs around the world. Rainer Trüby charted the record in Straight no Chaser
magazine and Gilles Peterson placed it on his list of the Top 50 albums of
2001. German label Compost included Moonstarr's track "Dust" on the latest
edition of its prestigious Future Sound of Jazz compilation. He also worked
with Movement's John Kong to produce the bossa-fied "Future Visions" on
    Fluid Ounce Records.

With the great strides Moonstarr's has made in 2001, the year 2002 looks to
be a banner year for Moonstarr. Moonstarr's acclaimed Dupont will become
available on CD for the first time. On this 12" Compost Records releases new
remixes of the "Dupont EP". Besides a fantastic new Moonstarr remix of the
track "Greed", this 12" also contains a superb remix by Nu Era, which is
Marc from 4 Hero under his 'Detroit-ish' pseudonym. Expect more Moonstarr
releases on Compost in the future!
