    Greetings,

I was planning on a modest list of new titles to play on tonight's show, but that was before I came home and opened the mail...now I'm adrift in CDs and vinyl....for instance:

Ben Mono: Dual - Details on this artist are sketchy, but suffice to say that this is a perfect Compost album. Broken beats, creative programming and soul-infused vocals make for a nice collection of tracks with the label's signature sound.

Kool Keith: PresentsThee Undatakerz - One of two new Kool Keith releases, Thee Undatakerz bio reads like this: "Coming to Earth from a far away galaxy, this group of mercenaries reside beneath the cover of undertakers. Meeting somewhere between P-Funk and Six Feet Under, they are, in fact, known as the Undatakerz: the best team to call for your funeral, as well as your musical, needs." Keith plays the part of Reverend Tom, who not surprisingly, wears a yellow suit and wig. This album will have you scratching your head, rolling on the floor, or both.

Plaid: Spokes - A fine new collection of songs from Plaid that may remind some of their Black Dog material. Slightly darker in tone, but always fascinating.

Jol: Moody Aow - Swedish producer Joel Eriksson has turned up on several crucial compilations and along with Quant is responsible for transforming his home of Gothenburg into the much funkier 'Gonkyburg.' On his debut album, he lays down some tight beats and growling electronic basslines for a jazzy workout that makes every cut a solid winner.

V/A: Outpatients 3 - Once again, the good folks at Hospital Records have compiled an impeccable collection of atmospheric drum & bass, 2-step and nu-jazz. There's something for everyone on this most excellent disc.

V/A - Verve Remixed 2 - I'm checking this one out as I type and on first listen, it's a worthy successor to Volume 1. Gotan Project's tango-flavored re-work of "Whatever Lola Wants" by Sarah Vaughn is sexy and provocative, while Miguel Migs and Mondo Grosso take Ella Fitzgerald and Archie Shepp to the dancefloor with slammin' 4-4 workouts. Mr. Scruff keeps it old school with Ramsey Lewis' "Do What You Wanna" and Fila Brazilia contribute a few modest flourishes to Cal Tjader's "Soul Sauce."

Sidewinder: Resolution - Glasgow's Alan Bryden has also made the rounds of compilation discs in the past and now gets a chance to shine on his own. Impossible to pigeonhole, Resolution constantly shifts moods and tempos but keeps a firm grip on melody and song structure. Downtempo fans will want to check this out immediately.

New singles from Break Reform, Low Budget Soul, Aflex Combo and Allessandro Oliverio are stacked near the 1200s awaiting their turn, so reviews will have to wait until next time.

And that's it for this week!

    Ciao for now,
    David
