MGA concludes its summer soul mondays series at the illustrious Temple Bar,
1026 W. Wilshire, with yet another bomb show including an encore bow from
the first lady of soul herself, Sy Smith!!!
If u haven't been able to make it down, Monday the 25th is your last chance
to catch the 10 onslaught of live jazz breaks, deep house, and nu soul b4 we
go on a brief hiatus for more writing and recording.
Let me give a shout out to everyone who has helped make these Monday nites
happen, including our own illustrious DJ Theory, and his friends Tony Watson
(www.mekanic.com), Jamie Strong from Ubiquity Records, DJ Phoreyez, and DJ
Presto from Concrete Grooves. Next, we have to give it up for MC Frog 1
(that's Freedom Rules Over Government...) who has been coming with strong
rhymes each and every time...
And, how about the band, including Louis Taylor on saxophone, Stewart Killen
on percussion, Stephen Theard on drums, Ian Martin on bass, and Fred Clark
on guitar... The assembled credits of these cats would fill multiple pages
on pages, with names like Soulive, the JB's, Julie Dexter, Ronnie Jordan,
Terrence Trent D'Arby... aw, why even go on about it..., suffice to say,
this WILL be the hottest jazz band working in So Cal this Monday nite...
And a special shout out to last week's guest, the incredible vocalist /
songwriter / guitarist Damon Cooper, aka "Coopa Jones..." From the moment
this cat opens his mouth, its clear to anyone with ears he's got the gift...
hard to believe he won't have a major record deal by this time next year, he
has GOT to be the strongest and most soulful male vocalist in LA right
now...
And, special thanks to the always sexy ladies of the MGA, Kia Hamm (original
G), Nieves Malandra, not to mention Jennifer, Kelli, Charlia, and the rest
of the cast of thousands....!!! U never know who will be on stage from week
to week!
That's it... This Monday, August 25, only $5 with password.... (MGA!)
(PS check out Ian M on Organic Grooves vol. 1, and Sy on Organic Grooves
vol. 2; while you're at it, catch Sy on the Brand New Heavies latest album,
"We Won't Stop" or on the road with Meshell Ndegeocello....)
