THIS WEEK: THE MOST RECOMMENDED ALBUMS OF 2003
The year is winding down, and that means that many a DJ are tallying lists of their favorites for the year 2003. Urban Landscapes is no exception, choosing to break it down into four separate lists. You might think that I'm going out of my mind, when in fact it's always good to try and give the appropriate talents their just due whenever possible. I can't say that 2003 has been a spectacular year in music, but some worthy and deserving contributions have been graced upon us.
Rather than trying to put together a top-whatever list, I'm continuing the trend of year's past by giving you my most recommended music for the year. This week's show will focus on the albums of 2003. I can't say that I've had a chance of listening to every recommended albums this year, but there were enough to know that quality music can both be found and heard. It's always a challenge to make music, and even more so making a full-on album. Creating an essence, a flow, a journey...these are the things that many artists strive for when making a long-player. Many tracks are usually created before narrowing down to the cuts that matter. But will they work? Does it take a listener elsewhere? Is an album good enough that it evokes an overall emotional response sans analyzing the music? These are things that I look for in an album that has the potential to make my list, and I hope that you will give them a chance by exploring these albums if you haven't checked them out.
Next week will be the last Urban Landscapes of 2003, and that show will focus on my most recommended singles and EPs of the year.
I will also have separate lists for my most recommended compilations and songs. More on that soon, and all the list will be in next week's circular.
MUNDOVIBES SHIFTS GEARS
The online magazine Mundovibes is on hiatus, for now. JC, who has worked very hard on maintaining the content, has recently returned to Florida. Apparently, he has plans to ressurect Mundovibes into a print publication. The premiere issue is scheduled to roll out in Winter 2004. My interviews with Break Reform & Al-Haca Soundsystem will be included in that issue. If you're interested in reading the articles online, shoot me email and I'll let you know where about you can find them. In the meantime, you can visit http://www.mundovibes.com and add yourself to the mailing list to be notified when the issue is published. Hats off to JC and best of luck with taking Mundovibes to print!
