STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)
Hello all
I managed to fit it all in last week - Trainspotters' Corner, 2 guests and
some great new tunes.
First up was the return of Trainspotters' Corner, with a wonderful new
version of "Vidigal" by Rima (an alias for Domu and Volcov), whose album
"This World" will be out this year on JCR. Rima's soprano sax-led version
sounds most similar to the instrumental version by Marcos Resende and Index,
but I chose to play the original 1978 vocal version by Banda Black Rio.
Banda Black Rio's latest album has also been given a release outside Brazil
thanks to London label Mr Bongo.

Shaun Escoffery who was good enough to drop in to give us a live take of his
track "Let it Go", as remixed by my previous guests Jazzanova.
Spine-tingling stuff. Shaun's self-titled album is out now on Oyster Music.
The "Soulonica" album will be out later this year collecting remixes from
the likes of Koop, Mark de Clive-Lowe, 4 Hero, Toshio Matsuura, Peter
Kruder, DJ Cam and more.

Finally, I was joined in the studio by Sydney's DJ Frenzie who dropped in
with a quick-mixed set of funky tunes, always impressive in the RRR studios.
His Melbourne gigs have passed now, but you can always catch his eclectic
Saturday residency at the Sydney Globe.
This week I have a mix and an interview with London's Gilles Peterson. The
easiest introduction I can give would be to say that he is the world's most
influential tastemaker when it comes to Stylin sounds.
Finally, put on your dancing shoes and head down to Honkytonks now for the
Open Sesame session. It's Elvis Aljus' birthday tonight but that doesn't
mean we'll be giving him a break from those congas and timbales!
until then
Ennio Styles
