I have to share this with all of you because I know you will relate to what
I’m saying as fellow music lovers. Almost two months ago I was sitting in a
small bar here in Orlando checking out a friend, one of the few people that
regularly spins out some nujazz/broken beat in town. I was chillin by
myself enjoying the music, and before long I ended up talking to a brother
sitting next to me, a true music head. We talked about music, how he had
just moved here, and how he was working hard to afford going to Full Sail to
become a producer. I hadn’t heard from him in a while, and today I just
received an email from him saying that being in the Marine Corps, he was
called to active duty and had to leave school. They’re sending him to
Kuwait soon. These are his words: “dont know what im going to do without
music, probably go crazy.” His email really touched me and made me realize
how what’s going on right now affects people on so many levels. Nevermind
the whole conversation I could have related to poor people and signing up
for the service as an escape/means…I can’t imagine living without the
ability to have access to music or without the ability to express myself via
music in whatever fashion… before I ramble on, if you care to, do two
things:
1) protest this bullshit war this weekend
2) help me get a playlist together so I can send a tape to him. what are
some songs of hope that you enjoy? I think someone might have started one
before on this list…first one that comes to mind and one of my favorites
–Soul II Soul “Keep On Movin”
thanks for your virtual ear. I feel better now.
uninhibited,
myrna
