    Greetings,

Well, as luck would have it, our Matthew Herbert interview was put on
hold for a few months, as Matt had a last-minute business meeting.
I'm told he'll be back to do some press for "Goodbye Swingtime" in
the near future, so we'll plan on hooking up then. In the meantime,
keep listening to the show for sneak previews of the big band album,
as it's not due out until sometime in May.

Right before airtime last week, I was handed Volume 9 of Compost's
Future Sound Of Jazz series and believe me when I say that it's a
real stunner. There's more of an electronic feel to this edition,
with tracks such as Dntel's "Anywhere Anyone" and over half of them
are previously unreleased and / or exclusive to this album. Last week
we played "Leave Me Now" - a terrific new jam from Stateless (aka
Andreas Saag) and Alexander Kowalski's "Along," that's destined to be
a peak-hour monster. Due out in March, it gets the highest
recommendation. Oh yeah - it comes with 3D glasses!

Russ Gabriel has remixed dozens of songs for others and released a
few of his own, but "Into The Unknown" is only his second full-length
under his proper name. Continuing his discoveries into the
juxtaposition of soul, jazz and electronics, Gabriel underscores many
of the nine tracks with a heavy Latin influence that's nothing short
of infectious. As in the past, Gabriel fleshes out his programming
expertise with live musicians, adding violins, horns, guitar, keys
and percussion for an organic sound that's warm and intimate.

At first listening, I was put off by "The Message At The Depth" from
DJ Krush, possibly due to the abrasive nature of the beats and an
apparent disregard for melody, but after giving it another chance, I
found a few cuts that caught my ear. Anticon's rap on "Song For John
Walker" is hilarious and "But The World Moves On" is a beautiful
piece of work. So much for first impressions.....

Our friends at Kriztal Entertainment are back with two more
compilations that benefit from inspired programming and track
selection. "Ocean Drive: Volume 1" might be the perfect soundtrack
for cruising down Collins Ave. in Miami or just about anywhere, when
you're in the mood to add a bit of tropicalia to your day. Popular
tunes by dZihan & Kamien, Minus 8 and Quantic, get friendly with A
Vida Azul, Digital Alkemist and Praful - the result is one great
party. "Orientation" by Eastenders is a look at the world of Asian
dance music from Stefan Muller, who offers perspectives on various
styles by mixing together compositions of his own, as well as Slop
Shop, Karuan and Orient Expressions. The result is a strong set with
    many hard-to-find items and mixes.

Finally, "26 Mixes For Cash" is the new double-disc set from Aphex
Twin that compiles remix work from the past ten years for artists
such as Nine Inch Nails, The Beatkniks, David Bowie, Gentle People,
Wagon Christ and others. We'll be playing this a lot in the weeks to
    come.

That's it for this time - ciao for now....
    David
