Greetings,
First, some great news for all the Mac users out there: KUSF has been added to the iTunes Radio Tuner, meaning you now have direct access to the live broadcast from the iTunes player. Simply open iTunes and in the left column, click Radio Tuner > Public > KUSF > double click and.....voila! - the live stream is running. You can also access Netmusique's Housemusique and Jazzmusique's streams by clicking the Electronic tab and scrolling down to their icons.
For those of you using OS X, here's another trick: click and drag the station you're currently listening to into the left column and create your own list of favorites for even faster access. If you listen to the FreeFall archives every week, drag the show to the left column and you'll always have the latest program ready to roll. If you're a Windows user and have a similar trick with Winamp or another music player, drop me a line with instructions and I'll pass it along to the rest of the list.
· Stateless: The Art Of No State - You've no doubt heard Andreas Saag's orginal work or his creative remixing skills on many different recordings, so it's a real pleasure to be able to offer you an early look at his debut album under his Stateless psuedonym for the Freerange label. Due out in May, The Art Of No State is a deep, jazzy affair that includes a number of his fellow Gothenbug musicians, as well as Yukimi Nagano (Koop) on vocals. Production is tight and funky with bass lines that slip and slide around the melodies. Another contender for best of 2003!
· Break Reform - Fractures - Another contender for best of 2003! No, I'm not having a senior moment (at least not now) - the debut album by Break Reform is indeed that good. Half of the 14 tracks have appeared on 12"s in the past in varous forms over the past three years, so if you've missed them, here's your chance to catch up. This is a record that smoulders from beginning to end, thanks to its unhurried pace and the sweet, sexy vocals of Ms. Nanar, who draws you in with the right touch of innocence, tempered with a knowing wink.
· V/A - The Deadly 7" Sins - Not new, but new to me....a compilation of 7" singles and then some, the Breakin' Bread label drops 22 cuts of old (and new) skool funk and hip-hop from Rob Life, Quantic and Color Climax, along with some def freestyle raps recorded at their weekly club nights. Thanks to Skeg for sending it out!
Another shout-out goes to Dan at Caroline for the musical madness that arrived in the mail this weekend. I haven't even come close to listening to it all, but I'm looking at new titles from The Advent, Marvin Dash, Stakker, Andreas Tilliander, Qebo and the latest volume of the Clicks & Cuts series. Rest assured you'll be hearing samples from these and more in the weeks to come.
Koop are in town this Friday night at Bimbo's and we'll have tickets to give away. I'm looking forward to seeing the full ensemble recreate the music from Waltz For Koop and I hope all our friends in the Bay Area will do so as well.
Finally, I'm experimenting with a new mail program and I'm about to hit send for the first time. If anything looks a little funky, you'll know why.
Until next time, ciao for now...
David
