Yesh yesh y'all!
BEST KEPT SECRET at you once again, taking this new year to the next level
shit...yes, we are this bold.
And why not? It's still winter outside, the lack of sunlight is making
everyone a bit delirious, and it's nice to be a bit conceited sometimes.
Tune into this:

Need a little samba swing in your life? A bit of a percussive workout?
Chalk it up to the lack of vitamin D, the BEST KEPT gyals doing something a
little crazy tonight...
We welcome the Samba Elegua into the studio to do up some LIVE SAMBA ACTION.
Yes, that's right, LIVE SAMBA ACTION. Led by the man Ty, this group of 22
heavily rhythmic individuals have been playing together for a year. Ty put
the group together through getting friends and classmates interested in his
obsession with the samba. When the bateria started up, lots of people
within the group didn't know much about it at all, but wanted to learn. Now,
a year later, these guys have led impromptu parades in downtown Toronto
(most memorable: the Canadian Gold Medal hockey win last Feburary and the
Reclaim the Streets shutdown last August), played at several gigs, and
effectively got the cops called to Chicks Dig It (!) when they played with
us back in September.
Samba Elegua will be performing LIVE in the CHRY studio and, perhaps,
accidentally-on-purpose in the Student Centre, shaking the York drones in
the food court out of their stupor. We'll also be chatting with them about
the group, so if you're interested in the ways of the samba, you don't want
to miss out!
NOTE: for everyone in the CHRY on-air studio (ummm...Dal...) make sure to
bring some earplugs cause it's about to get REAL LOUD for
real tho...
<<<<<THE OTHER NIGHTS>>>>>
First off, mad love out to the shebang! breakers for an incredible Saturday
night at the Break N Enter. Dalia and daShank absolutely ripped it up! The
dancers killed it as well. Make sure you check the next one coming up in a
few months...
Lots o'things a gwon, so pick up those weeklies to get the full scoop...but
here are some absolute essentials...
THURSDAYS
In Divine Style @ the Hooch (817 Queen St. W, above Gypsy Co-Op) w/Alexis
and Mindbender bringing it to you, and More or Les bringing some serious
pain to the decks for some heavy open mic action. Much love to all that
reached to She Style last week! That night was a bit wacky, and Venus got a
new year's resolution out of the way early... $3 B4 11 PM, $5 after..
FRIDAY JAN 17
One, two, three...say it all together now: FUKHOUSE! Yes, another edition
of the dope-as-fuk techno and tech-house event returns. Nuff people on the
bill for this one: Zuzana Grimm, Jacob Fairley, Kenny Glasgow, Lee Osbourne,
and AMtrak, with residents Jeremy P. Caulfield and Ian Guthrie. Always a
good time. Touching down at System Soundbar (117 Peter St.). $15 B4
midnite, more after, so head down early! Always a good time and dope dope
music...
MONDAYS
Chicks Dig It storms the IV Lounge (328 Dundas St. W, across from AGO) good
and proper each and every week. Much love to MelBoogie and Lindsay Bess for
absolutely KILLING it this past Monday, bringing Droppin Dimez LIVE on CKLN!
Lots of people out for that one, braving the cold in the quest for the dope
tunes...respect! This Monday (Jan 20), come check the sounds of Kalmplex
(the newest member of CDI), Soulsistah, and Zuzana Grimm. Can someone say
'chooooooooooooooooooooooon!'? $3 or PWYC...
TUESDAYS
Brand new brand brand new weekly hitting the Fez with some deeeeeeeep dubby
goodness. M-A-X-I-M-U-M DUB invading the space, and not a moment too soon.
Oooooh yeah...the sounds of DJ Chocolate and the Resinators LIVE on the
weekly! Whaaaaat! Go support the good music, y'ere? Not sure on the damage,
but methinks it's cheap...
There's always so much good shit that goes on in this city, so much much

on the keyboard lately :)
