    HARK!

What warmth through yonder Arctic air breaks?

Getting warmer? In Toronto? Let's hope *crossed fingers*

And with Jack Layton taking the leadership of the federal New Democratic
Party...maybe this whole shituation is about to get heated right and proper!
Looks like we have someone on our side bringing a louder voice of reason to
the table. Finally! Especially in this time of Bush warmongering and
    bullshit: http://www.smallbrainer.de/uploads/bush-oil.jpg

So how bout some good radio, yeah?

As Dalia continues in her quest to swim the Pacific Ocean waters, Venus is
in the studio tonight welcoming the
CellDivision crew. Comprised of DJs NV, vIsioN, and Jynx, these guys bring
some ill hip hop and jazz vibes via the cut'n'scratch'n'blend school of
turntable mastery. With a musical arsenal that includes classic,
    underground
hip hop, rare groove, nu-jazz, roots reggae, downtempo, and obscure melodic
beats, these guys know how to create a nice nice vibe. These cats are
getting busy in the studio as well, dropping some really deep head nodding
tunes that are sprinkled throughout their live and recorded mix sets.
Their weekly 'Vibes n Stuff' night at the Down One Lounge brought some
much-needed soul to the Front Street shi-shi-ness, which has now morphed
into vIsioN presenting HYP-NOD-IC on Saturdays at Down One (49 Front St. E):
butter hip hop, downtempo and jazz flavours. Definitely keep an eye out for
CellDivision's very excellent 'Sounds from the Core: Vol 1' mix compilation
that's making some noise among those in the know.

CellDivision will be dropping an exclusive mix set on BEST KEPT tonight,
live from the studio, so definitely tune and get recording, cause this will
most definitely be some ill shit!

Ooooooh yes, another busy week in the city always smokes...here's the
    abbreviated version of events:

Thursdays: In Divine Style...get yourself some musical elevation and check
some dope hip hop. Live performances, Mindbender on the mic, Alexis runnin
tings, More or Les on the decks, open mic action...what else you need? At
    the Hooch (817 Queen St. W, above Gypsy Co-Op). $3 B4 11 PM, $5 after.

Friday Jan 31: Quadrasonic doing up the multi-turntable mashup once again!
A great event that one of the more musically interesting DJ concepts in the
city...8 turntables linked up, jamming in real time to live bands and DJs
vibing off one another. This time around it features DJs Mike Drury, Boris
'Kid' Conga, Mike K, and Alvaro C, with the Quadrasonic Orchestra and
Tribalisimo heating it up proper. LAST MINUTE ADDITION: Chicks Dig It on
the head nodding tip in the downstairs lounge, with DJs Chocolate, Dalia,
Kalmplex, and moi Venus. Should be real nice. Down at Revival (783 College
St., west of Grace). $10 all night...

Sat Feb 1: OK where to begin...too much dope shit going on!

    (a) The Roots: yes, they are in town, and yes, this is going to be
siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick. Good luck trying to score tickets...apparantly it's
all sold out. Down at Kool Haus (on Queen's Quay there...Guvernment area,
scene?). $34.50 advance tickets, more from your friendly neighbourhood
    scalper.

    (b) Gambling, Gods, and LSD: Sumkidz presents a night of cinema and music
convergence featuring the film Gambling, Gods, and LSD by Canadian filmmaker
Peter Mettler. It explores dance culture and the idea of transcendance, and
was voted one of Canada's best films at the 2002 Toronto International Film
Festival. Providing the sonic accompaniment for the evening in the 'Shake'
room will be Jonah Sharp (SpaceTime Continuum, San Fran) with a special live
PA/DJ set, Mike Lambert, Lee Lee Mishi, Eric Downer, Rollin Cash, and
Telefunk Soundsystem LIVE. In the 'Bake' room, get nodding to the sounds of
strangeangel123, Siren, Chocolate, and Lex&Rew of Legion of Green Men
(special ambient DJ set). Going down at the Grand Theatre (1215 Danforth
St. at Greenwood). Tickets are $25 in advance, and capacity is 400, so get
    yours early!

    (c) John Tejada: yes, perhaps the most melodic producer in techno today that
makes the most beautiful moody pieces you've ever heard. Pretty excited this
guy's coming through to Toronto. Sure to be a nice night of techno and
house, with the hometown heroes of Kenny Glasgow, Tim Patrick, Paul E Lopes,
and Patrick Parades bringing the pain. Going down at the Mockingbird (580
King St. W). $10 and methinks that's only at the door...email me back if
    I'm wrong!

Sundays: Red Beet Lounge with General Eclectic and friends bringing a nice
sweet blend of dope music on the jazzy hiphop - funk - soul - etc. tip.
Much love to those that reached this past Sunday and thank you going out to
General Eclectic for having me come down. Go support some good music
dammit, and say whaddup to Jenna, Melissa, Big City, and all crew there at
Fressen (478 Queen St. W, across from Element Bar). Free...

Monday Feb 3: Yesssss...Chicks Dig It kicking it right and proper each and
every Monday. This coming Monday will be a crazy night as it is the
official 'Sayanora Venus' party. That's right, my lovelies, I'm taking off
outta town for a little bit to the warm tropical climes of Costa Rica for 3
months!!! Yesh yesh y'all!! Straight up sun, surf, and sand. And gardening.
I'll explain if you want me to...but anyway, come down to IV Lounge (328
Dundas St. W across from the AGO) this week to check out ALL THE CHICKS WHO
DIG spinning up the mashup of house, jungle, downtempo, hip hop, techno, and
all sorts of abstract biznizz. 4 turntable madness up in there that night!
Ahhhh yeah! Only paywhatyoucan all night...
