Modern Groove Assembly will be in residence Thursdays at Club Fais Do Do,
starting next Thursday, Feb 6. And, to get the party started right, we've
invited 2 of the hottest acts we've seen on the nu-soul hip hop scene to
    join w. us!

First, STAR 69 featuring SY SMITH; While most new groups seek to generate
buzz, these ladies have graduated from buzz to hum to rumble to sonic boom,
all in one gig! They are THE nu-soul vocal trio to watch, and they pack so
    much style and
vibe it's actually a bit scary!

All of these women have major background vox credits; we're talking Whitney
Houston, Macy Gray, Santana's Shaman, Ronnie Jordan, the Black Eyed Peas,
The Brand New Heavies (upcoming album), Miles Tackett and Breakestra and the
    list goes on and on.

The group features Stephanie Alexander, who sings and plays guitar, vocalist
Dawn Beckman, and Sy Smith, who sings and plays keyboards. Sy released
a highly acclaimed solo effort on Hollywood Records. Helped by stellar
producers like Ali Shaheed Muhammed, (A Tribe Called Quest, D'Angelo) her
album, Psykosoul, was called "a brilliant marriage of classic soul and hip
hop" by the online All Music Guide.

This is a fantastic new group with very strong original material, (Sucka 4
Love is a SWEET jam), delicious harmonies, an unbelievably tight backing
band, charisma to burn, a very large following of industry movers and
shakers, and. oh yeah... did I mention that they are *F*I*N*E?

Next up, NATUREZ DEZIGN. This act may not boast the heavyweight credits of
the first 2 groups, but that's just a formality and a matter of time, 'cuz
this is one superlive, extratight, delicious and tasty LIVE HIP HOP BAND!

Naturez Dezign was founded by 3 friends from the Crenshaw High music
program; MC's BenYah and Malichai, and vocalist songwriter Eniyah. This band
is the essence of the underground. a lean, hungry, talented, live act with
the vice-grip tightness that all now-legendary groups used to have (u know,
back before they got a deal. when they rehearsed 4 hours a day 5 times a
    week.)

Naturez Dezign comes correct with solid arrangements of strong original
material, a fusion of the best elements of The Roots and Brand New Heavies.
Backed by Rhodes, drums, percussion, bass and sax, this is a band to
discover; their sound, their show, their energy, lyrics, variety,
tightness, vibe, personality, passion, drive, direction and we can go on and
on. On the live tip, they NEVER disappoint, but always DELIVER FRESH.

And the best news of all? The bands have agreed to share backline, so there'
s none of the annoying 30 minute soundcheck between groups.

Thursday Feb. 6 at Fais Do Do. Doors open at 8 pm. Music from 9 with DJ's
spinning nu-jazz, hip hop, soul, and deep house. 21 and over. $10 w. secure
parking for just $2. Full Cajun - Soul Food menu.
