    BREAK REFORM
    Abstract Blue Recordings

Every so often an act comes along that is not only genre defying, but openly and undoubtedly engrossed in talent. The trio (Nanar, Simon and JJ) that is Break Reform capture the musical imagination and one listen converts the listener to their addictive and inspiring sound. Break Reforms debut album "Fractures", on their own label Abstract Blue Recordings, has out sold every left footed debutant in the last 12 months and for good reason.

It all started with the “When It Came “ 12” (remixed by Tony Nwachukwu of Attica Blues) was extremely well received by the public at large and the limited pressing sold out almost instantly.

As is often the case, Gilles Peterson was the first to spot and highlight the collectives huge potential and offered a helping hand. After championing the 12” track “Perfect Season” - he liked it so much it was licensed onto his first Worldwide Compilation album. Since then the plaudits have been bountiful and their career paths set in a northerly direction. Jazz lovers buy the record as do retro freaks, crate diggers and soul boys (and girls). Hip Hop head nodders and sofa surfers too. A perfect accompaniment to mellow evening at home as well as the sweatiest night spots across the globe. Classic song writing and lyrical content as well a sense for simple and effective production and arrangement make their songs flow and glow.

Kyoto Jazz Massive, Rainer Truby, Jazznova and the Sonar Kollektiv / Compost Records crews have bowed their head as well as King Britt, Russ Dewbury and Coldcut pay their homage to the new kids on the block.

What is it they say about success and good things? They never come easy. Simon S has been producing, promoting, DJing and sonically hustling in and around London for over 15 years, producing for likes of Julie Dexter. Jason Yarde. JJ, the “master of musical disguise” has worked in record stores and was a part of the free sound system culture. Nanar, whose serene and focused voice adds the last element to the chemistry.

With the albumsales having eclipsed all expectations, its time to hit the road and take the sound live and direct around the world to replicate and adapt the record for live audiences. The album launch at London's Ruby Lo in May 2003 was an inevitable roadblock (for a Sunday afternoon gig!!) New remixes by homegrown and loyal bunch of producers of the “Fractures” album (entitled “New Perspectives”) will follow shortly in Autumn worldwide as well as new material via vinyl and E.P’s (not to mention the numerous licensing, remix and collaborative work that will crop up on a label near you) across the summer and beyond.
