-- source: Metropolis UA Sora no Koya (Speedstar) Folks outside Japan may not be aware of it, but UA along with her long line of inimitable songwriters and producers has comfortably set her body of work with the finest progressive soul recordings around. In support of Dorobou, her latest studio album and most experimental yet, is Sora no Koya, her second live album. Her live band could hardly be any more illustrious, with Asa-Chang and members of Rovo and Buffalo Daughter all in place to accentuate UA's ever-growing avant-gardism. There's "Toro," it must be mentioned: the way the rhythm section, which is in such a deep groove, swirls the momentum through the sky, how UA's voice flies along with the comely violin-it's terribly inviting. Improvised noise, spoken word, jazz charts, strings and steel drums; it's all herein this double disc set. Sora no Koya possesses the intimacy of a street-side impromptu and the scope of something much grander; this is something rather special and unique-about as essential as live albums get.
