Not sure where it's showing but the film "Cuidad de Dios" is a must-see,
although it has to be the most violent film I've ever witnessed, along the
lines of Amores Perros but much more extreme. Set in a favela in Rio, it
captures the lives of desparate, sociopathic youth as they grow up (or die).
The voilence is not gratuitous though, since this is the reality of many
in Brazil, especially youth. And there are plenty of scenes that are
nonviolent, with some great personal moments. The cinematograpy is
unbelievable, as is the music (which is the latest Brazilian Beats
compilation on Mr. Bongo). Seu Jorge is one of the film's characters.
