    Hey hey hey. Another caffeine-fueled day here in the land of Venus. Will this full-time 'job' type living never end? Yes, yours truly has ventured into the land of 9 - 5...what a way to make a living. Getting a case of the Mondays each and every week. Not too bad though...today we played dominoes and poker all afternoon, and tomorrow I'm bringing those rolls of pennies I've been saving to win some serious money. All in the name of your public health. Gotta love goverment work!

    Caring about your aural health for 9 years, it's the

    Ever meet those kinds of people that embody a way of life? If there's one person I've met in all my years of being a music junkie that epitomizes this characterization, it's gotta be More or Les. This guy not only lives and breathes hip hop, he IS hip hop. A mad talented and meticulous DJ, with crates steeped deep in hip hop history. An ill MC that destroys any microphone with lyrics for days, rhyming about any topic, anywhere, against anyone, all with sharp wit and intelligence. Just released his debut album 'I Only Stop for Red Ants' independently on his Villian Worship imprint (www.villianworship.com), and it's brilliant, with rhymes couched in some truly killer beats concocted by "'reduc(ing) other materials to the important elements" by Dorc, Vangel, and Les himself, alongside some live instrumentation by Flat Out.

    I'm excited to finally have More or Les in the CHRY studios to chat about the album. take control of the turntables for an exclusive DJ set, and get busy in a freestyle session, perhaps even all at once.

    Check him out every Thursday at the Hooch (817 Queen St. W, above Gypsy CoOp) for the infamous In Divine Style nights...well, except on the SheStyle nights, where he graciously steps aside for us Best Kept gyals :) Upcoming performances to check him LIVE in the flesh: Friday June 13 @ Corona (1720 Queen St. W) with Raynge and Corrupted Nostalgia and (b) Saturday June 14 at Hive Magazine's Pulp and Plastic night @ The 360 (326 Queen St. W) on DJ duty for Wordburglar.

    ::::::LAST WEEK:::::

    Mad love out to Masia One who came up to the studio in a mad frenzy with fresh-off-the-press copies of her album 'Mississauga' (www.masiaone.com) in tow...be on the lookout, gonna catch a fire! Go see her at Brown Girls in Da Ring. And mad love out to Moonstarr for steppin up to the decks for a lovely set to dry out our rained-out clothes...we arrived 1/2 hour late (you know I love ya, Neil!) due to the shitty weather...

    A few key events to get your week(end) popping good:

    Brown Girls in Da Ring hitting the Reverb (Queen St. W and Bathurst) on Thurs June 12th for an evening of unplugged performances on the spoken word or live instrumentation tip. Mmmmmmhmmmmmm! Featuring Masia One, Anjulie, CC, Tia Thomas, Toya Alexis, Crystal Clear, Mystique Blu, Debbie Young, Grand Imperial, Karen Richardson, Nicky Lawrence and more. Hosted by True, with afterparty tunes supplied by MelBoogie and DJ Lytes. $10 at the door, guys free before 9 PM.

    Play Records presenting Phauna 'Need Rain' 12" release/pre-CD party on Saturday June 14th at 99 Sudbury Ave (Dovercourt and Queen-ish). Phauna performs LIVE, with tunes bumped by Peace Harvest, Middlefield, Noah Frank and Brian Ireland. $10 at the door. Running 10 PM - L.A.T.E. (and if you know Play, you know that means sunrise at least).
