    Greetings,

I sit typing this edition of the newsletter, wishing that I wasn't here, but rather in Miami for Winter Music Conference. As soon as I'm done, I plan on donning my loudest Hawiian shirt and mixing up a pitcher of Pina Coladas....mmmmm....

A couple of weeks ago, I explained how to bookmark the Netmusique, FreeFall and KUSF streams in iTunes if you were a Mac user. For Windows folks, here's how to bookmark the Netmusique (or any other) stream in your Winamp tuner: http://netmusique.com/images/bookmarkwinamp.gif. This greatly simplifies your path to Netmusique's broadcast and to the FreeFall re-broadcasts (see below for schedule). Thanks to Jeff for the screen shot and info.

Lots of new music this week, beginning with:

Bob Holroyd: "Without Within" - I've lost count of how many albums Bob has released through Six Degrees, but this has to be his best so far. Juxtaposing African melodies and percussion with downtempo and techno rhythms, Holroyd has expanded the definition of world fusion even further. Each track is a joy to listen to and I'm eagerly awaiting the remixes.

Speaking of African music, "Africa Before Invasion" from Najite Olokun Prophecy is an album of sizzling Afrobeat from Nigeria, made possible by Najite Agindotan - a Master Drummer who studied with Fela Kuti and played alongside stellar jazzmen such as Hugh Masekela, Billy Higgins, Horace Tapscott and Phil Ranelin, who contributes trombone on this disc. Look for it on SoFaDisk, a new division of Plug Research.

Spacek: "Vintage Hi-Tech" - Remember the robot lovers in Bjork's "All Is Full Of Love" video? Well, if that couple settled down and set up house, this might be the soundtrack to their lives. Once described as the "Radiohead of soul," Spacek's second album is a cool, shimmering dish of icy R&B. Hip-hop, blip-hop, or trip-hop - the sound is disarming and engaging. My copy is missing one track with Vikter Duplaix guesting on vocals and I'm looking forward to hearing their collaborative efforts on the finished release.

Any album on Select Cuts is sure to come correct dubwise and the third album from Lisbon's Cool Hipnoise is no exception. Produced and mixed by Nick Manasseh (whose new record dropped last week), each track is accompanied by it's dub counterpart, save for a cover of Nirvana's "Come As You Are." This band is tight and guaranteed to stir up some involuntary skankin'!

We also have the new "Futuro Flamenco" collection, the wacky jazz-fusion of Finland's Jimi Tenor, more music from the finished Dwele album, a hint of Hint on Ninja Tune and tickets for Theivery Corporation and Cuica. If you're not partying down in South Beach, I hope you'll join me.

    Ciao for now,
    David
