Chicago's HotHouse, the city's promoter of world music was recently closed
down by Chicago police between performances of Cuba's Orchestra Aragon. This
was entirely politically motivated and sends a chill down the spine of
anyone interested in cultural exchange. HotHouse incurred losses in the many
thousands of dollars because of this, since it was closed for at least a
week and had to cancel all of its booking. If you are in Chicago this
weekend, go out and support free expression and this important venue:
This Friday HotHouse is hosting a benefit concert at the Metro with two
really hot bands, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra and Yerba Buena.
Originally scheduled at the HotHouse, the owner of Metro generously
provided his space to HotHouse for this special purpose.
All proceeds go to the HotHouse to help us continue the fight to keep
our doors open. The two bands are amazing. It's for a great cause.
Please forward this to everyone you know and help us fill the house for
an amazing night!
