    hey,

it's been a while since i've sent out email about me
playing. i've actually been playing, just been
    lagging about sending out info.

i'm playing canal club this friday (5/30). for those
    that haven't been there, it's a restaurant/bar with an
island/tropical vibe to it (mojitos are the drink of
choice) including a sushi bar. i start at 9pm and go
    until 1am. from 9-11 it's dinner-ish music, and then
from 11 on it's more energetic stuff (house, hiphop,
    2-step, etc.). there's no cover since it's a
restaurant and i don't think age is an issue until the
kitchen closes--about 11. the address is 2025 pacific
av (at venice bl) venice, ca 90291.

monday i'll be doing my usual "something else!" gig @
the brig (1515 abbot kinney bl. @ palms--1 bl. north
of venice) but i may have a few guest djs. the brig's
    a straight-up bar--i.e., 21+ w/i.d. no exceptions!
the night starts around 10pm and goes till 2am.
should be soulful vibes all night with the energy
ebbing & flowing as we see fit.

i'm doing a guest mix set for a really great website
out of philly--broke & beat radio
    (http://www.beleza-music.org/vivid/bb_radio.html).
the host, argo, just got interviewed on a magazine
site (www.mundovibes.com) and is a really great dj.
we were shooting for 6/8, but i still haven't done the
mix yet, so i'll let you know what the ACTUAL date
will be. definitely go to his site and check out some
of the mixes already archived, the music is always
solid. there's another site i'm talking to about
doing a mix, but there's no details yet...

btw, anyone that wants a "something else!" mix cd let
me know--you can get that monday night vibe any time
    of the week...

another teasing bit of info, my partner markman & i
should be doing another dance night soon, details
    pending...

a good friend of mine is putting on an event on friday

    PROCEEDS GO TOWARDS:
    1) "United Nations of Hip Hop" is a feature length
    documentary that
will portray global hip hop culture in all its faces,
languages, and colors. No other form of American
music has influenced the world more than hip hop
music. Though hip hop culture has traveled to every
nook, cranny, pub, club, nation, radio station, gone
commercial, sold its body, and regained its soul
-it has ultimately remained a battle cry of resistance
for youth from Senegal to Mongolia, Japan to Cuba.
From cassette music shops in Dakar, Senegal to
"Neo-black" tanning salons in Japan, to Communist
    government
sponsored hip hop concerts in Cuba, we will see how
    hip hop has traveled.
This film will look at the daily lives of hip hoppers
in various countries revealing to us why they choose
hip hop as the love of their life. Why does hip hop
exist in every country in the world? The purpose of
this documentary will be to unveil the untapped power
of a global hip hop conversation, and to show American
hip hop artists the extent of their influence
    worldwide.

    Bio:
Christina Choe is a graduate of Hampshire College,
where she received a B.A. in Film/Video and Critical
Theory. She is now an independent filmmaker and has
screened her award winning documentary, "Turmeric
Border-Marks" at film festivals nationwide. She has
toured with Rennie Harris Puremovement's "Rome &
Jewels", as a live VJ/videographer during the
2000-2001 season and has worked as a youth media
educator in Philadelphia and NYC. In 2002 she received
NYFA arts fellowship in Video and is currently working
    on a
new video, "Axis of Evil Film Festival" and a feature
    length global hip hop documentary.

    2) "Rural Exodus and Migration": A Dance Film About
Senegalese Women's Stories In collaboration with
    Senegalese dancers/choreographers Faatu Cissé and
Faatu Samb, we will draw from the stories of women who
have migrated to Dakar from rural areas. These stories
will serve as sources of inspiration for creating a
dance on film that portrays the complex performances
    of
identity within the context of individual/nation. The
piece will incorporate footage of dancers in relation
to Dakar's contemporary metropolis, such as the
Sandaga marketplace, female Sabar dance gatherings,
the public bus, and the industrial ocean port.
Throughout my collaboration, this piece will
challenge the tendencies of many American and European
choreographers who, in shaping work for a world stage,
gloss over cultural difference, and instead create a
multicultural harmony that exotifies "ethnic" dance.
In contrast to this approach, I am interested in
exploring how individual stories summon up the
workings of power, desire and national identity .
