Tonight we'll feature a guest mix from Da Lata, whose new album
Serious has just been released by Palm Beat in the UK. Full of
souljazzlatinfunky goodness, I think you'll enjoy the set.
Things I like: Amy Winehouse: Frank - She may only be 19, but Amy
Winehouse has the spirit of an old soul. Bits of Badu, Billie and
Macy appear throughout, but add to the individuality of her smokey
voice that wraps itself around the jazzy arrangements. Her lyrics are
bold and sexy and not what you might expect of someone without a lot
more life experience. A great bedroom album.
Marcos Valle: Contrasts - Legendary Brazilian pianist Marcos Valle
has been creating hits for himself and others for over 40 years and
several of his songs are standards in the world of bossa nova. His
third album for Far Out sounds fresh and contemporary and should
excite his fans to no end. Remixes by Bugz In The Attic and 4 Hero
are frosting on an already very tasty cake.
I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving, or if you live
outside the U.S., a very pleasant Thursday. With any luck, I'll have
figured out the schedule for the annual year-end wrap-up shows by
this time next week.
Until then - ciao for now,
David
