    Greetings,

Last week's four-hour extravaganza was a smashing success by all
accounts and my thanks go out to Praful and DJ Bart for stopping by
for a most enjoyable interview. You can hear it for yourself by
checking out the archives during the next two weeks, or by tuning
into Netmusique.com this Thursday morning. Several local listeners
had requested the playlist from my set on Treasures Untold, so I've
included it below. Be aware that the program will not be available
online, but if anyone really wants a copy, drop me a line and we'll
    make special arrangements.

Since I'm a little pressed for time this evening, I want to mention
two new albums only. The first is the self-titled debut from Mystery
School Ensemble - an eleven-member ensemble from London that I've
raved about several times in the past. Combining several tracks from
their two "Esoteric Sound Suite" EPs and a number of new
compositions, MSE is adept at creating evocative, moody jazz that
fills the room with dense layers of sound. To me it feels like a
humid summer day, where the air is filled with moisture that promises
rain, albeit in a very pleasant way. Songs ebb and flow into one
another and before you realize it, you're caught up in the journey
and happy to be swept along. For more info & sound samples, check the
    Artifact Records Web site (www.artifactrecords.com).

The second album is also a debut full-length and comes from the DJ
collective, Al-Haca Soundsystem. Inevitable encompasses a variety of
tempo and textures from within the world of reggae. Dancehall, dub
and electronic glitch sit comfortably next to each other within the
context of this disc and the stellar list of guest vocalists doesn't
hurt either. They include Ras MC-Tweed, Mr. Dead, RQM, Mr. V and
Sizzla and each bring a distinctive element to the deep, bass-driven
riddims. For more info (and some cool Flash programming), check out
    www.al-haca.de.

The SF Funk Festival kicks off this week and we'll have tickets to
several of the hottest shows this weekend, including the Headhunters
at the Great American and Grandmaster Flash at Kelly's Mission Rock.

Next week, Mr. Scruff and DJ Spinna will be in town to perform in
support of Verve Remixed 2 and if all goes according to plan, we'll
have them in for a guest DJ spot next Tuesday night.

Thanks for listening....until next week - ciao for now,
    David
