    NEWS
I've had to fall back on an old mailing list that I'm temporarily making use of until things are sorted out with the current permanent list. If you receive this message twice, or if you wish to be removed, please let me know. We hope to have the permanent list worked out soon.

It's been about six weeks since the last broadcast. A bit longer than I've anticpated, but the break was good and the productive time plentiful. You'll soon learn all of the goings-on as you read on.

    THE CIRCULAR
As you can see, this looks a  bit different than the past circulars. These days, HTML email is more widely supported than ever. So it made sense to move along into another incarnation, which is what you're reading now.. Comments and what not are welcome.

    TIME CHANGE.
I've decided to trim the show back by one hour, making it a two-hour broadcast. I feel that this will make for a leaner show. But you tell me what you think...I welcome your comments. In any event, you can listen live on-air on KCPR in San Luis Obsipo at 91.3 FM, and also online via the KCPR web site at http://www.kcpr.org/ (click on the "Listen Live" link).

    NEW LOOK
Thanks to the kindness of Christina at Softart Studios (and showrunner of the Citrona label), the show finally has a logo. Simplicity says a lot, and she's done an excellent job of its creation. Thanks, Christina!

    WEB SITE REDESIGN
On the strength of the new logo,:I've decided to allow another person to redesign the Urban Landscapes web site from the ground up. We've started on the redesign over a week ago, and now the new Urban Landscapes web site has finally arrived. It's been a long time coming, so I'm very pleased to have it at a time when I could barely find time to do it myself! Elliot has done a terrific job of realizing my concept and adding his own two cents, busily constructing and testing the site to its present form. There's still some work to be done, but what you see is what it now is. You can bug Elliot if you'd like to turn him loose to create a web site for you...he's worth every penny!

    Audio Changes
With the change of the site also comes another change that I'm going to try out. For a long time, I've been using the Real format.  The quality has been pretty decent, and the only complaint that I have were the occassional broken links and a few asking for alternative formats to Real. I've chosen it because the format is cross-platform, meaning that it'll work with Macs, Windows, and Linxu operating systems.

Now get ready for another change in audio. I'm going to use a decent quality version of the mp3 format. It should sound better than Real, so hopefully this will work out. I recommend that you have an mp3 player that can handle streaming from a web site. I highly recommend Apple's Quicktime Player (available for MacOS, Windows 98/2000/ME/XP), & Linux) or the most recent version of Winamp (for Windows 98/2000/ME/XP). I know that the Windows Media Player and the RealOne player also have playlist support. Feedback and comments, as always, are welcome.

SOUL INVASION AT CLUB SLO BREW
Very good news on the clubbing front. Soul Invasion will be moving on to the SLO Brewing Company, affectionately known as SLO Brew. The place has the largest dance floor in San Luis Obispo, and a big sound system to boot. Our thing is funk and soul, past and present. We're the only club night in town that will be specializing in funk and soul, and we have some great DJs spinning the goods:

    - Velanche (KCPRs Urban Landscapes)
    - Malik Miko (KCBX's Night Train)
    - DJ Calyx (KCPR's WEFUNK)
    - Armatronix
Soul Invasion will be a monthly event, so I'm quite pleased with that. We hope to see lots of you funksters at our first date at SLO Brew, which will start at 10:00pm on Wednesday October 29. It's a 21-and-over event, and admission is free before 11pm. After 11pm, there's a small cover charge of $3. So get your grooves on and come support all things funky and soulful in San Luis Obispo!
