finally made it to the record shop the other day and
picked up the following mixes:
Florian Keller presents Party Keller Vol. 1 (Compost)
-- A decent mix of dusty funk, boogie, some
back-in-the-day hip hop and other gems. If this is
any indication of the German parties by the same name,
we should all be booking our plane tickets today. My
favorite cut: Dorondo's "Legs Pt. 1," a slammin funk
tune with a low, fuzzed out bass.
J-Boogie's Dubtronic Science - Live! In The Mix (OM)
-- I think this came out a while ago. All kinds of
styles here -- dub, soul, midtempo house, etc. The
Dubtronic crew drops instrumentation over top the cuts
Boogie is spinning. My only complaint (and it's minor
I guess because the mix is real good) is that they
don't really rework anything ala The Rebirth,
Blackbeard, etc. It seems to me if you're going to
have a sax, flute, vocals and such, you'd try to take
some of this stuff and flip it all the way. Like I
said, I'm still diggin the mix though.
