I hope some of you had a chance to get out to the Haight St. Fair
this past Sunday. It was a gorgeous spring afternoon, the music was
great and so was the people watching. One of the acts - Sistas In
The Pit, included local soul singer/writer/performer Kofy Brown and
we'll be investigating her fine new CD, "Love Warrior" this evening.
Also on the agenda is a superb new compilation from the Chocolate
Fireguard label entitled "Interesting Flavours," featuring dope new
tracks from Slowpho, The Bluefoot Project, Freddy Fresh, Kava Kava
and a slew of others. There's a wide range of beats and styles on
display that all hang together nicely and should appeal to anyone who
enjoys the kind of music played on FreeFall. We've got excellent new
singles from Jazzinho and Albanek, "Egypt" from Youssou N'Dour,
computer-spliced jazz experimentation from Florintintin and a smoking
new collection of Latin jazz from Verve, compiled by Masters At Work.
Next week we'll showcase a guest mix from Sandboy (aka Tobias Meggle)
that's a chronological trip through '70s and '80s jazz and soul,
ending in the present day. Then, two weeks from tonight (June 22nd),
I'll be filling in for Harry Duncan and spinning for four hours,
beginning at 8pm PDT. More about all of this next week.
Until then, ciao for now!
David
