    Hola,

Among the batch of interesting new releases this
week is the debut album from Subtle (A New
White), featuring Oakland's Doseone as part of a
live and very musical sextet. Signed to Lex (the
latest spin-off label from Warp), Subtle reside
firmly in hip-hop's left field and there's either
some next level shit going on here, or they've
been hitting the bong a little too often,
depending on your point of view. I actually think
it's a little of both, and the result is a sonic
    texture that's thick and complex.

Phutureprimitive's Sub Conscious also has a thick
sound that's rooted in dub and Middle Eastern
rhythms with Gary Numan-style techno tossed in.
All tracks were written, produced and mixed by
Rain, with help from a posse of guest vocalists.

The new Gotan Project mix album
    Inspiración-Espiración runs the gamut from
remixes they've done for others (and others for
them) to tracks by some of Philippe Cohen Sloal's
favorite artists, plus...one new song and a ten
minute video piece from Prisca Lobjoy - the
person responsible for their stunning stage
graphics and projections, to round out the
    package.

You like guitars? We have new work from Bill
Frisell and psychedelic classics from Gabor
Szabo, new 12"s from Break Reform (with hot Domu
    remixes), Grandpianoramax (with hot Domu
remixes) and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (no Domu
remixes), new CDs from Tin Hat Trio, Fingathing,
Bossacucanova, Sounds From The Ground and a
preview of the SFJazz fall program that kicks off
on the 14th of this month.

And speaking of SFJazz, we'll have tickets for
select shows throughout the festival, so be
listening for your chance to see artists such as
Brad Mehldau, Jaga Jazzist, Sex Mob and maybe
even attend the 3-D presentation of Creature From
The Black Lagoon at the Castro, with a live
soundtrack performed by the Jazz Passengers.
Expect that and more in the weeks to come....I
    hope you'll tune in!

Until our next transmission - ciao for now,
    David
