Hello all,
Sorry to drop a very late notice, but I've just learned that jazz vocal
god Mark Murphy is doing his first L.A. gig in at least 3 years tonight
@ a small jazz club in Glendale—Clancy's Crab Broiler (219 N. Central
Ave., Glendale 818.242.2722). I had the matchless honor of meeting and
working with Mark two years when I redesigned the bulk of his website
(www.markmurphy.com), and I can say unabashedly that not only does he
STILL have the most devastatingly sublime voice of any male jazz
vocalist on the planet, but he's also one of the sweetest, wittiest and
most humble men you'll ever meet. For anyone that thinks they don't
know Murphy's work, trust me—you'd know the voice if you heard it.
Check United Future's "Stolen Moments," and "Future Light", 4Hero's
"Twelve Tribes," Tenth + Parker's "Kool Down" and "Millennium Riddle
Song," and the COLOSSAL/CITY-LEVELING Flytronix remix of Mark's own
"Baby (It's Just Talk)." Or just check Gilles P.'s Journeys by DJ for
Mark's brilliant homage to the true, much-missed jazz-dance Mecca
"Dingwall's."
Mark goes on @ 8PM, and cover's $20 (no drink minimum). Like I said,
sorry for the ridiculously late notice, but I didn't want to let it
pass without dropping a note.
While things have been too hectic to send out an e-mail gig guide in
months, the L.A., New York, London, and Chicago guides on the
Liquidator Graphics site are still updated without fail every week. Do
check in at

The next few weeks in L.A. alone are ridiculous with Sidestepper (+
incendiary local cumbia massive Very Be Careful), Nickodemus + Mariano
with Metro Area, the sublime (and much lauded by Gilles P.) Build an
Ark, the mighty Niño Astronauta (with an ineffably supple and frenetic
breakbeat-cum-bossa onslaught that may well be the closest anywhere in
the western world to matching the genius of Japan's don, Ryoto Nozaki
(Jazztronik)), Nortec Collective + Volumen Cero, Tortured Soul, Marky +
XRS + Roger Sanchez + DJ Vadim, and gorgeous local songstress Joy Jones
(whose demos are getting much play from Mark de Clive-Lowe, et. al.)
and much more.
And things are just as lovely on all other fronts. So check the
Liquidator site for the latest.
For anyone was planning on sitting home tonight, do try to rush out to
Glendale for Mark's gig.
Many thanks and all the best,
Brian Baltin
