STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.htm (see below for times)
Hello all
Sorry about the delay with this one. I have been taking to my computer with a Torx T8 screwdriver the last few days, making all the necessary tweaks to make sure it can handle the demands of a weekly newsletter. We'll see if it can handle two newsletters in one week now, since this is the one from two shows back, the show where I featured the next wave of Melbourne music. Simon Gorman joined me in the first hour. I shouldn't really call Simon the "next wave" since he's been doing it for years. Must have been close to 10 years ago he was percussing, saxing, fluting and singing (under the name "Rama") alongside Kano and myself at the Lounge. But only now has he passed on some recordings of the music he's been promising for so long. Beautiful modal-jazz, Stevie-influenced dancefloor soul, operatic gospel, deep electronica a-d tough club-friendly remixes, this guy's got it all. Look out for Simon joining us at Open Sesame again soon.
The second hour was the first live "unplugged" performance I've had on Stylin, and what a way to start. Melbourne's soon-to-be-R&B-superstar Daniel Merriweather did an amazing acoustic interpretation of his current single "She's Got Me", accompanied by the talented Percy Robinson on guitar. Look out for Daniel's album set to drop next year with the fruits of his collaborations in NYC with producer Mark Ronson, as well as some excellent material produced by Daniel himself.

As for tomorrow night/Thursday night (depends when you're reading this), Open Sesame hosts Mark Rae at Honkytonks accompanied by the superb vocalist Pete Simpson who performs on Mark's latest album for Grand Central. I've missed Mark when he's been out here before, and after all the praise from people who went I'm looking forward to checking him out tomorrow.
