    Hola,

I don't have kids, but sometimes I feel like I do. I have CDs. Lots
of them. Every week more show up in the mail and duke it out for
airplay on Tuesday night. They cry out, "play me!" while the discs
from past weeks say, "don't forget me!" It's tough love, but what 's
    a DJ to do?

This week's new arrivals include the new album from singer Kate
McGarry, whose repertoire includes re-workings of songs by Bjork,
Joni Mitchell and Peter Gabriel, in addition to originals and
standards. The new album by HighEnd is pretty chill, as the Brazil
Remixed and Nu:Jazz Italia compilations. Faith Evans' new disc is
almost as good as "No More Drama" from Mary J. Blige and Germany's
Micatone returns with their third album chock full of jazzy
dance-pop. Plate Fork Knife Spoon comes to us from the very local
Wide Hive label and features the rhythm section from the Crown City
Rockers, David Boyce (Broun Fellinis) on sax and Eric Krasno (Soulive
on guitar), making for some very organic, jazzy hip-hop. On the jazz
tip, I'll try and get in something from the new Dave Holland Big Band
album and one of two new Art Blakey reissues on Blue Note.

And speaking of jazz, our ticket counter will be offering passes to
see Lou Donaldson, Lonnie Smith and David "Fathead" Newman at the
Palace Of Fine Arts on Friday, Sound Tribe Sector Nine at the
Warfield on April 15 and this weekend's Electric Vardo, featuring the
Ultra Gypsy dance troupe, Rena Jones, DJ Sep and more. Remember, if
you live in the Bay area, but can't pick up KUSF where you live, log
onto www.kusf.org to listen via the Net and participate in our
    giveaways.

That'll do it for this time...until next week - ciao for now!
    David
