STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne (GMT +11)
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au (see below for global times)

Hello all
Stylin 199 & 200 are now online. 201 coming soon.
http://www.quantumlounge.net
Now is the time of year we call 'Radiothon' at RRR, which means we ask for listeners to subscribe to the station to help us cover operating costs for the next year. Amazingly, more than half of RRR's funding comes from listener subscriptions during Radiothon. RRR is a not-for-profit organisation and is not beholden to government or commercial interests. RRR has been running in Melbourne since 1976 and is now Australia's largest subscriber-based radio station, with no equivalent in many parts of the world.
This year, RRR has moved premises to Brunswick which of course has meant a lot of additional costs. The new studios and facilities are going to be great once they're finished, but we need subscriptions to make that happen. From a Stylin perspective, we really need some CDJs in there!
So show your appreciation, show your love, and subscribe. We had a subscriber from Bangkok last week - it would be good to get some support in from the newsletter crew around the world too. Subscription rates are AU$33/66/110 depending on whether it's a concession, full, band, artist, DJ, pet, business or passionate subscription. Lots of prizes for Radiothon subscribers, and ongoing discounts and giveaways throughout the year. Check the link below to request a subscription form, or email me for details. Let me know if you're subscribing - we'll do a roll call on the show.

It's quite an intense 2 shows that I do for Radiothon, but it's the music that gets me through. A rewind of recent and older classics. The go-go-tinged soul of Jill Scott's 'It's Love'. The killer R&B vs D&B bootleg from a few years back. The unreleased hard bossa/hip hop remix of Jay-Z by Darryl Reeves, a real suprise since his own 2 albums are straight-ahead jazz. MAW's massive 12" mix of their own Nuyorican Soul tune 'It's Alright, I Feel It' giving 4 Hero's version of 'I am the Black Gold of the Sun' a run in the epic stakes. Plus classic funky techno from Stacey Pullen. And I feel a bit silly having said the full Local People Remix of Barbara Acklin (which I worked on) is unreleased. Turns out it's on the vinyl Remixed Fevers EP 2 - my copy turned up right after the show.
More rewinds next show - hope to hear from you before then.
And tomorrow night (Thursday from where I sit), we've got a suite of guests joining Kano and I for Open Sesame at Honkytonks: Lanu spins tunes, Melbourne band Velure play live hip pop soul and former Stylin guest Deepchild drops in from Sydney to play a live set too. It's all to support the release of Amnesty International Australia's Freedom 05 CD, which there'll be copies to give away too.
until then
