    NEWS
Welcome to 2005, and Happy New Year to all. It's the start of another
new year for, among many other things, good music. I'm always on the
lookout for great music of new and old, and it's a never-ending journey
to be sure. In the end, you're the beneficiaries.
    URBAN LANDSCAPES TURNS SEVEN
Seven years ago this weekend, Urban Landscapes debuted on KCPR. What
started as a trip-hop/ambient show evolved into the weekly show of
jazzy and soulful club culture from around the world. It's been a fun
ride, and I shall continue this most cherished journey as long as the
interest is there and the music keeps flowing. It's been cool to have
corresponded with a number of you, even getting to meet you in person.
It's a treat and a privilege, and it's bound to only get better.
To commemorate the show's anniversary this week, I've decided to dig
into my soul collection. Much of what you'll listen to this week is
music that have influenced me during my youth. I'll also sneak in a few
faves that I've missed in the days of young...mainly lost or forgotten
gems that have been found and appreciated well beyond their original
    release dates.
    VELANCHE'S UPCOMING DJ GIGS
It seems that I'm going to start taking the club DJ plunge big time
this month. After rocking it at a private New Year's Eve gig last
weekend (big ups to the lovely Lisa and the dapper Tim for having me),
I have some dates for you SLO peeps to check out.
I have four dates at The Dwelling, and they will be gigs starting after
scheduled live shows each evening. These are the dates:
-Wed. Jan. 12 (after the "Gruvething" concert)
-Fri. Jan. 14 (after the "Red Lights" concert)
-Fri. Jan. 28 (after the "Dominic Castillo & the Rock Savants" concert
    -Fri. Feb. 4 (tbd)
Spinning will commence at around 11pm or so. Do make it if you can. All
nights will feature a mix of funk/soul/rare grooves, as well as choice
music from Urban Landscapes past and present.
And it's just the beginning. I'm all but ready to go full speed ahead
with my club DJing endeavors More dates will come soon.
    VELANCHE GONE BLOGGIN'
Yes, I'm hopping on the blogging bandwagon. To that end, I've just
started a new blog called Velanche's Spot. This will be my outlet to
speak of music, as well as whatever it is that I hope becomes useful to
others. I will try and update it at least once a week, but more will
follow very soon. You can find my blog on the website, which is located
    online at http://velanche.blogspot.com.
    END OF THE ROAD
Don't forget that the most recent shows for December, including my Most
Recommened Music of 2004, are on the Urban Landscapes web site. Check
out the playlists, download the shows for listening, and enjoy!
My January chart will be available by late next week, so keep an eye
    out for it.
Until next week, enjoy the music and have a prosperous new year!
